In a perfect world what would/could have been your Olympic Sport. Golf not included.

I was a decent at gymnastics and rugby at school but I think I might have made a decent marathon runner

I was pretty good at hockey and reached junior England level and then found boys so lost interest. My lovely Dad always said I could have been a contender but then he was biased and also thought I could have been a professional golfer if I'd carried on playing past aged 9! Possibly triathlon/marathon. Did manage to qualify for the elite ladies start at the London Marathon in 2002 but realistically a good club/county runner rather than international class.

I am a pretty good rifle shot so it would be that I suppose.

Squash is the other obvious answer but I can't say that as it is not in the Olympics. This despite the fact that it is played in over 300 countries around the world and has more players than the majority of Olympic events at London 2012. In addition, we would have probably won two medals in the men's competition as Nick Matthew and James Willstrop are the current world number 1 and 2!

In Olympic terms I'd probably have been a sprinter - 100m, 200m; I was pretty fast back in the day. Didn't really get much opportunity though - school sports once a year was about it. :(

I'd have said football but it shouldn't be in the Olympics......!

Never really thought about it but agree it's odd and seems to fit as an Olympic sport. Has it ever been a demo sport?

Quite straight forward for me, would be the Taekwondo, done it since I was a kid as my dad got me into Martial arts to look after myself as one of the smallest in the area I grew up, got my blackbelt 1st dan after many years and currently studying/working towards my 2nd dan. Would love to see some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in there to as I took that up as well 9 years ago and is a really good technical art, though i've tailed that off the more I play golf.

Ironically if the BOA had their selection right we'd have been on the gold for the Taekwondo world No1 Aaron Cooke is english but was not selected as they wanted a more diverse ethnic team and picked the world no57 instead for those reasons, political correctness gone mad.

If I could pick something else it has to be the cycling so inspirational, or Handball i've really got into watching that for some reason. I wasn't up for the Olympics at all this year due to the Aaron Cooke decision but it has got me hooked in the end

It is a good fit as an Olympic win would be the pinnacle of achievement for a squash player.

World Squash has applied to be included as a sport or demo sport for the past 3 Olympics but has not made it in as the following sports were deemed more suitable: windsurfing, rhythmic gymnastics, baseball, softball, BMX racing and beach volleyball.

It is a crying shame really and inclusion at London 2012 would have given UK squash a colossal boost, especially given that we would be overwhelming favourites for winning the men's gold and possibly silver too.

There is currently a major programme going on to try and get the sport included in the 2020 games - http://www.squash2020.com/

Worth a look...

Knowing the square root of zero about Taekwondo I don't want to argue with you but from what I've read ethnicity doesn't come into it - seems more like the selectors took the huff after he left the GB training programme?

Your right that was one of the reasons given, however it was given after they initially stated the the world number 57 at the time now number 59 I believe Lutalo Muhammad, was originally mentioned that he was a better fit due to the diverese cultural area surrounding the Taekwondo area would mean more bums on seats.

However Cooke does use a different trainer to the team GB set up, and the BOA wouldn't allow him to bring him in and use the trainging regime he had, they wanted them all on the same hymn sheet so to speak. But still whatever the reasons its akin to Jamaica leaving Bolt at home because he does things his own way. C'est La Vie

It'd be badminton for me. I got to a standard to hold my own in division 1 of our county leagues, but County players would kick my backside!

Baseball. Had GB been a good enough team in 1992, I would have made the squad. Then again, I think it was only a demonstration sport at that point. Now the GB baseball team is full of plastic Brits from the minor leagues in the States whose grandfather once got his leg over during the war.

Please tell me baseball isn't in the Olympics!!

Done lots of sports over the years but never really excelled at any... The one sport I wouldn't have minded competing at a higher level doesn't become an Olympic sport until Rio... Rugby Sevens....
