Your Favourite Player? Why?

It has to be The Big Easy for me no one has a smoother yet powerful swing. I went to a practice day at St. Andrews last year followed him the whole way round hardly anyone else about. Brilliant! I even got a nod of the head when I shouted "nice drives Ernie" after he monstered two about 300 yards one either side of a fairway bunker.

Payne Stewart---- Legend

Props for that.

I had two in mind but often forget about Payne which is a sin really. He was a seriously classy guy, getting better with age and passed in his prime. Such a shame for the golfing world.

I remember growing up wathing him play and really looked up to him.

The other two I have up there are Stewart Cink and Retief Goosen.

Glad Cink won a major but a big shame for golf he had to win that one. Love the high finsh and the game overall.

Retief has my fav swing on tour, silky smooth. Should have won so much more but seems to only play thurs to sat a lot of the time. Watching him hole 15 footers for three days is great but the 3 foot misses on sunday are painful.

All time - Seve; pure genius and never boring to watch as something miraculous was always going to follow something car-crash!

Current - the Big Easy; Westwood; Poulter; Donald and Kaymer.

All Time - Jack Nicklaus for me - may seem obvious but what a competitor. He also understood the true values of this great game. A few of todays superstars could learn from him - you don't have to be obnoxious to be a great competitor.
Of todays crop Luke Donald isn't the most powerful und is rarely phased by anything but can compete with the best.

I have gone full 360.

From "hating" that arogant cocky cross dressing Poulter, I now find myself loving his self belief, dedication and flamboyant dress style.

Of yesteryear, I've always been a Sandy Lyle fan, Payne Stewart was a legend and hero. Mr Watson has always seemed like a gentleman and I'll throw in another name whom I always liked watching. Mark McNulty, awesome putter and another one in the Luke Donald mould who didn't worry about the big hitters, did his own thing and made scores his way:- fairways and greens every time.

Well mine would be a combination of Tiger, rory and luke one for determination the other for sheer ability and the other cos of there long game.

You can work out which is which ;)

I couldn't pick one out but I do/did always enjoy seeing:
Couples, Faldo, Langer, Tiger, Donald, Goosen & Els

Following on from comments about Seve. Went to watch him at the PGA at Wentworth in 1991. My first big golf event. Started following Faldo, who was then in his prime. Good golf but the atmosphere was absolutely flat. He was in his bubble and the gallery was hushed. Shots met with polite, subdued applause. Switched to Seve. What a difference. Instantly understood what the word "charisma" meant. Atmosphere just crackled and there was amazing rapport betwen him and the gallery - when he hit a great shot he'd flash that smile and we responded and cheered him on with real feeling, which he in turn responded to. It was like we were in it together. Part of a shared experience. No him and us. He shot 65 and it seemed like it could have been 59 he had that many birdie chances.

Just hope he pulls through this tough time.

And there it is ladies and gents. I've read all posts and was going to go with Nicklaus, damn tough decision, until this post. It made me feel like I was there as well.

Seve, no question, all time player. (I get called Seve by a few golfing mates. Not because of ability, but due to having to play recovery shot for most of the round). :D

Re: SYour Favourite Player? Why?

Too many to mention really........and for different reasons perhaps......

Freddie Couples - the most 'fluid' swing Ive ever witnessed
Ernie Els - Uber smooth tempo
Payne Stewart - a real gent and showman.
Tom Watson - TW take note, this is what a real Great looks & acts like.
Seve - nuff said.

and of the current generation.....
Rory - a swing like Freddie's, but needs the temperament of Kaymer.
Lee Westwood - a modern day Tom Watson - dignified and dogged.
Alvaro Quiros - love the way he plays, could be a 3 of a 6 on his card, but still he smiles......

.......and there was me thinking you'd choose Tiger ;)

Re: SYour Favourite Player? Why?

Poulter for his self belief and the fact he's done it the old fashioned way.

Donald for he fact that his game is more complete than any other.

Seve cos he made me fall in love with this game
