Down at Glen Golf Club in North Berwick for a knock with some pals today (yesterday now). Some of you will know the boys from the Castle Stuart trip.
Lovely day (for February), full course, preferred lies, no wind. God, it was good to be out on the course again.
So the new Xmas toys came out to play for the first time.
a) The new windcheater. Snuggly as a bug. Lovely.
b) The new MP57s I bought from DCB before Xmas. Super luvly jubbly. We're gonna get along just fine. Hitting them higher than my old MP30s which I'm quite happy about. Great feel. Cheers Dave.
c) New grip on the driver. Must have worked. Hit 13 out of 14 fairways and that miss was only by a yard or two. Sound.
d) New Cleveland wedge. Again, very nice. Happy.
e) New putter. A full length, softer faced version of the Odyssey I had before. I like it but it was misbehaving. 7 (count them...7) three putts. Oof. There go my 6 shots. Bit of practice required methinks. I've never got the hang of the greens at the Glen, anyway.
f) New HD camcorder. A Kodak zi8 I picked up 2nd hand from eBay for £58. Not too sure about this. It does produce better resolution but is probably worse than my old standard def one at everything else. AND the battery ran out on the 12th tee, exactly 10 seconds before my best drive of the day. Judge for yourselves, guys. Here's footage of the round with the new camcorder.

Compare that to the footage of the Forum outing there taken with my old one.

The colours just aren't right, are they? I know it was a dull day yesterday but I think a better HD one will be on the list at some point. At least it's handy to fit in the back pocket, though! And it was cheap. But I wouldn't give it high marks if anyone is thinking about one. Maybe on a sunnier day.
Anyway. A great day was had. Dave and I got well and truly out-birdied by "One-Putt Pete" and "Scorchio Scott" and lost 4 & 3 but then I was the only one of the four of us not to play to his handicap or better. An 81 with 40 putts. I love this game! Really missed it over the winter. Now where's that practice range again?
