I agree it's better than nothing but I still dont agree they should be driven to the course, dragged round 9/18 holes by their Go Kart and then driven home again.
I used to get more excercise than that just walking to school and back with a schoolbag full of books.

so can you please confirm what it is exactly that you are moaning about here, as I am unsure.

Is it the use of an electric trolley or is it a general lack of exercise by young people?

I can't see golf as exercise, so whether the bag is carried, pulled, pushed, or driven makes no difference to me. Exercise raises the heart beat, and makes you sweat. Golf only does either of these when you are standing over a 4ft putt (or in my case, a 70 yard pitch).

It is nice that the kids are outside for 4 hours, and not behind a computer screen. It is also nice that they are not mugging grannies.

However, golf will not make them thinner. Only diet and proper exercise will do that (running about, like playing footy). Eating mars bars and drinking coke on a golf course won't make them fitter or lighter.

Besides, with the sheer amount of stuff you can buy for the course nowadays why not get a trolley. It can rain at the drop of a hat so good to have your waterproofs, a crap round can come round whenever it wants so good to have plenty of balls in the bag. Hungry? Get some food in your bag. Thirsty? Get some drink in your bag......all this adds up....

easy one for me this... look after your back, we know more about the moon. You will wish you did if you dont!

So the poll so far is 2-1 in favour of juniors having electric trolleys.
I'll just keep keep quiet in future
 :(
i think the poll is more in favour of letting anyone have whatever they want to spend their money on that doesnt hurt anyone else....

I am 100% with you Bob.

I can't understand why more people don't carry their clubs. It is easier, less hassle and gives you a better level of exercise.

Juniors with tour bags and trolleys is just ridiculous.

All the comments on this thread about bad backs, needing to carry lots of stuff, bags to heavy etc. You need to toughen up a bit. Your posts read like a mothers meeting for the infirm, weak and soft! :D

As a lad between the ages of 10 and 15, I played 18-36 holes a day for 3 out of 5 days midweek during the summer holidays. I carried a full set in a pencil bag every day and was absolutely fine. The weight of my bag was never a thought that entered my head. There were probably 20 of us that all did this regularly and we were all fit as fiddles. The thought of having a trolley would have been met with total ridicule!

Then again, we were growing up in Yorkshire. Maybe some of these posts are from southerners who are genetically weaker perhaps? :D Or perhaps we were too tight to fork out for a trolley? :D

I still carry now as I don't need loads of stuff and am pretty fit. And I love beating people who have all the gear and no idea too.... :D :D :D

Bl**dy Nora! Wouldn't be much of a forum if we all thought like that would it?

A - "Ping clubs are for oldies"
B - "Perhaps but live and let live eh....."

A - "I love furry animal headcovers"
B - "Good for you, I am happy for you..."

A - "I need four wedges because I am a sponge for marketing spiel and a bit daft."
B - "Well the world's a lovely diverse place and the better for it."

A - "GPS yardage devices are ace"
B - "Whatever floats your boat - peace...."

Really stimulating debate! :D

amen to that

We know more about the moon than our backs eh?

Visitors to the moon = not many.

Orthapedic surgeons, chiropractors, phsiotherapists and sports massage experts in UK alone = a lot.

Here's a quick tip. Take two tablespoons of cement as medicine and harden up a bit. :D

I played with 2 guys both with electric trolleys. They were both youngish, mid 30's and had all the gear ;)

SO what do you think... Juniors with electric trolleys...

Hold on, 'mid 30's' and still classed as juniors? I am obviously at the wrong club!!! :D :D

I prefer carrying over anything else, however at the young old age of 38, a career of excessive rugby, football and karate (combined with a 'physio' and recuperation regime consisting of Guinness, lager, cider, malt whisky, curry, kebabs and early mornings) means that both my knees are shot and I need a push-cart. So yes, electric trolleys for fellow 'juniors' in the same condition as me is fully acceptable :D

bloody hell Snelly, if you hadnt mentioned Yorkshire, I would still have known exactly where you were dragged up. You do seem to be a master debater though, so I can see where you're coming from. I would also consider myself as quite fit, and more than capable of dragging clubs around a course, but why should I when some clever sort invented the trolley? If some other clever sort wants to stick a motor on it and sell it to Juniors, then who am I to argue? You do what you like, its a free world, others can do the same.

you might be quite fit mate but you sound like a really irritating little man (sorry, meant knob).

My back is not in great shape - possibly a result of carrying a lot of heavy stuff, strapped to my body plus a rifle, in fairly unpleasant places - while you were being tough at home deciding what ball to play.

Get real, it's attitudes like yours that means golf still has got a bit of a rep of being the bastion of stuffy, pompous dinosaurs

I use to carry as a kid and played up to 54 holes a day without a problem. Mind you in those days there weren't electric trollies anyway. I can see both sides but to be honest it was a godsend in the heat of last weekend and meant I could get loads of drinks and fod in to keep me going. In bad weather it is good to know you have spare towels, gloves and the waterproofs on hand without feeling like a sherpa.

If you want one then go for it. I'm a huge go-kart fan and don't think you'll go far wrong. Mind you if I'm nipping out for a quick nine after work I'll carry as all I need are the sticks some balls and a small bottle of water so I'm not a lazy sod all of the time

Juniors with electric trollies - absolutely.

Golf isn't a sport, it's a pastime.

You want to get fit? Join a gym. Golf won't get you fit.

I carry in the winter when trollies are banned and I HATE it!! To me, it makes golf a chore rather than a thing of fun.

I didnt bother voting as im a bit puzzled with the original OP.....
When the term juniors is used and the the ages of 30 something....
Im 36 hardly a junior...But in the OP's eyes i seem to be so im not sure what qualifies for a junior?

Golf to me is merely a nice walk...Some might say exercise but as Murph has said exercise to be in any way beneficial would need the heart beat raised considerably...
Iv played football all my life and had to retire through a bad injury which consisted of a full rupture of my achilles...

Now i use a trolley given as a present last christmas by HiD's.....Even though some days i would like to carry i dont think that A. the back would put up with it and B...Neither would my achilles tendon....

If the original question was meant to be directed at juniors (13-14yrs up to 20) then there may be an argument...But what right has anyone to judge a young golfer by whether or not they carry or use an electric trolley...Did it ever occur to anyone that it may be a medical issue on their part....

As murg said they could be doing worse...Even though they are young carrying the equivalent of 15lbs of weight 5 miles around a hilly course cant exactly be good for their back or their posture when the reach thier 40's or 50's...

Cut em some slack!

I'm 17 and I use a push trolley. I don't mind carrying but golf isn't a massive amount of exercise, so why not use the trolley if it's there? Either way it's still a 4 or 5 mile walk.

depends on the age of your junior, I've seen a lot of very young juniors on various courses and under 11 I'd sooner they had electric trolleys, but there comes a point when they ought to be carrying.
