Xbox monthly fees query - 2 consoles

Currently paying for Xbox live per month for one console.

Today have set up a second console for my youngest's birthday. It came with 3 month free pass for Xbox live gold and some Gamepass also free.

I'm the ££ main account holder and there are 2 user accounts set up so they can each chat to their gamer friends as they do.
Looking forward will I have to pay 2 xbox live fees per month or does the fact that they're both in the same house count for anything?

Didn't seem clear during set up.

Old machine is xbox one, new 2nd console is xbox one s.

It is possible and permitted but the way it works isn't straightforward and there are restrictions - it works OK for two people but not three. It's easiest just to get multiple subscriptions to be honest.

So the longer answer is a qualified yes it's possible but one of the kids is going to need Live Gold or Dad has to give up his Gamerprofile to one of the kids to do it because it works like this...

Dad's Gold account travels with him, anywhere Dad signs in he gets Gold access.

Dad can also set any one console to be his Home console. Anyone then signing into Dad's Home console gets gold access on that console.

So Kid A and/or Kid B can sign in to Dad's Home console and Dad can sign in to the other one and it looks like you've all got Gold Access.

But you haven't. The problem and restriction should now be obvious - the two kids can't both be playing at the same time on different consoles unless one of them is using Dad's Gamerprofile or one of them is a Gold subscriber.

You end up always having to buy FamilyMembers-1 Gold subscriptions to make it work and it's such a pain in the rear that it's just easier to throw everything in the bin. :D

Are you paying via xbox live for it at £6 per month????? If so you should really consider looking at CD-keys. £36 for 12 month sub. Same price you pay now (if it is £6) and you'd have two separate memberships.

Another thing worth considering is how much do you play it? If you don't really play much then consider sacrificing your membership and set-up one of the kids as a main account and password protect for purchases so they don't go crazy on Fifa ultimate or something. Set which ever console they don't use as the home console for their account. This way games purchased digitally can be shared by both kids and the gold membership can be shared. Expect problems if the internet goes down though.
