It is very clear from even a casual reading of this thread that basically everyone knows that things like wearing hats indoors football tops or white ankle socks are inappropriate but some feel they can 'get away with it when visiting other members clubs.'
Why on earth would you want to have a guest who feels they can get away with dressing poorly when they come to visit?
Most formal wedding invites or the Bride & Groom will let their guests know.I suppose it’s like going to a wedding or funeral.
Generally you know what to wear or not to wear.

Yes, but if they wanted you to only wear black shoes and not brown, they would have to tell you that wouldn't they?
