I’ve never seen a football match played in a Wetherspoons.
It would be a mistake to allow people to wear football tops in certain places.
Totally divisive and risking agro. Also a big turn off to those not interested in football or agro!
They don't show any sport in a Spoons. The original guy didn't want that vibe.
I well remember being a member of a club in Manchester when the derby was on. I even remember leaving the club before the final whistle when the Boro were beating Utd. It was very toxic.
It really depends on the location, there isn’t agro in every place that shows football match’s.

Fans tend to watch the match in “their” pubs. A couple of local pubs to me are SLand daft, why would opposition fans go in them?

At the Golf club we have the Bar and the Lounge, football is shown in the bar, depending on the fixture depends how busy it gets.

NCastle v SLand a few weeks back we had mixed fans and shock, horror, no issues.

Shirts are not the problem it’s the blokes wearing them.

The Scots aren’t really warm and welcoming in general in my opinion.

Can only speak as a Surrey born resident, who worked in Glasgow for two years, and is a member of a golf network where the Scots lads are very hospitable.

The nationalists tend to be less friendly!🤣🤣🤣

That has changed now.
My local spoons has 4 TVs in them.
Great on champions league night as each shows a different game.
It’s actually not a bad place at all.
Always full with all sorts in there.
I often sit by the window and watch the world go by.
Never seen any trouble or hint of it.
Sometimes I’ll meet my wife there and if she is there before me she doesn’t hesitate to go in on her own.
They have fruit machines and dart boards in there as well as quiz nights and such

Does that mean you have to supply your Club with your guests email rather than just booking Slab + Guest?

At our place we send booking confirmation to visitors and societies with Dress code.

If I book a guest as a member I don’t even have to give a name.

No they don't collect like that , person booking gets one and other named players they already have on file get the email
I can book a4 ball with Slab listed 4 times. But at some point I'll need to give other player names

Just checked our dress code it’s nice and simple.
Ours is much simpler, we don't have a dress code.
A notice is put out that Gentlemen and Ladies members and visiting are expected to know how to dress and comfort themselves at a golf club , those who do not will be invited to leave.
We have had very little trouble, there's always the occasional idiot who has white ankle socks and shorts or believes it appropriate to have an open neck in the club house. But we don't try and flog them the alternatives just show them to the club down the road.

I would argue that’s less simple and extremely ambiguous. You say no dress code but then ask people to leave if they don’t dress as expected 😂

I’d also hope you’re joking about the socks , shorts and open neck as once again that goes against the “we don’t have a dress code” as if that’s not allowed you clearly do!

Each club is entitled to their own code but to say you don’t have one then tell people they’re not dressed as expected screams otherwise 🤷🏼

Its not a code . there is no secret too it people are just expected to dress and comport themselves appropriately , just like we don't have officious orders telling people not to shout and swear. If people come inappropriately dressed or with a six pack of beer they are invited to leave.

Why would you want to share a course with people wearing white ankle socks? A gentlemans lower leg needs covering.

Is that not a dress code then 🤷‍♂️

By definition then asking people to dress as expected is a dress code.

I’d happily play golf in short, ankle socks and a normal t shirt. But seemingly that would fall short of your clubs expected. Unless you tell people what’s expected then, then you’re open to ambiguity.

I’m not going to re-open the sock debate but ankle socks are no more offensive than muppets wearing Knee length hose but that is accepted everywhere.

Apparently not 😂

I might go to long socks to protect from the carnivorous wildlife on our course at the moment. Legs are still swollen and itchy after being eaten alive at the weekend

That is taking nit picking to the next level.

Dress code, dress standards, requirements of golfing attire - whichever way you want to address it, they are all the same.
We just have simple reasonable standards I imagine many clubs are the same. How many clubs tolerate nudity on the course? How many clubs tolerate litter louts?
