Good decision as it would have cost them millions to have Sky etc. for all their venues. They don't show any sport in a Spoons. The original guy didn't want that vibe.

I’ve never seen a football match played in a Wetherspoons.
It would be a mistake to allow people to wear football tops in certain places.
Totally divisive and risking agro. Also a big turn off to those not interested in football or agro!

It really depends on the location, there isn’t agro in every place that shows football match’s.I well remember being a member of a club in Manchester when the derby was on. I even remember leaving the club before the final whistle when the Boro were beating Utd. It was very toxic.
I really think I would not like football tops to be worn in my clubhouse.
The Scots aren’t really warm and welcoming in general in my opinion. The Scots are a warm and welcoming people... but some turn briefly into raving nutcases, at the sight of "football colours!"
I've not seen nutiness to the same extent anywhere in England.

That has changed now. They don't show any sport in a Spoons. The original guy didn't want that vibe.
Does that mean you have to supply your Club with your guests email rather than just booking Slab + Guest?
At our place we send booking confirmation to visitors and societies with Dress code.
If I book a guest as a member I don’t even have to give a name.
Ours is much simpler, we don't have a dress code.Just checked our dress code it’s nice and simple.
I would argue that’s less simple and extremely ambiguous. You say no dress code but then ask people to leave if they don’t dress as expectedOurs is much simpler, we don't have a dress code.
A notice is put out that Gentlemen and Ladies members and visiting are expected to know how to dress and comfort themselves at a golf club , those who do not will be invited to leave.
We have had very little trouble, there's always the occasional idiot who has white ankle socks and shorts or believes it appropriate to have an open neck in the club house. But we don't try and flog them the alternatives just show them to the club down the road.
Its not a code . there is no secret too it people are just expected to dress and comport themselves appropriately , just like we don't have officious orders telling people not to shout and swear. If people come inappropriately dressed or with a six pack of beer they are invited to leave.I would argue that’s less simple and extremely ambiguous. You say no dress code but then ask people to leave if they don’t dress as expected
I’d also hope you’re joking about the socks , shorts and open neck as once again that goes against the “we don’t have a dress code” as if that’s not allowed you clearly do!
Each club is entitled to their own code but to say you do have one then tell people they’re not dressed as expected screams otherwise![]()

Absolutely not , if you don't know how to dress there are plenty of other clubs around. Is that not a dress code then![]()

Why would you want to share a course with people wearing white ankle socks? A gentlemans lower leg needs covering.
Apparently notIs that not a dress code then![]()
It isn't a code is an expectation that people behave appropriately we don't need to tell people how to behave. We’ll having a “notice” is a dress code![]()
That is taking nit picking to the next level. It isn't a code is an expectation that people behave appropriately we don't need to tell people how to behave.
I might go to long socks to protect from the carnivorous wildlife on our course at the moment. Legs are still swollen and itchy after being eaten alive at the weekendBy definition then asking people to dress as expected is a dress code.
I’d happily play golf in short, ankle socks and a normal t shirt. But seemingly that would fall short of your clubs expected. Unless you tell people what’s expected then, then you’re open to ambiguity.
I’m not going to re-open the sock debate but ankle socks are no more offensive than muppets wearing Knee length hose but that is accepted everywhere.
Apparently not![]()
We just have simple reasonable standards I imagine many clubs are the same. How many clubs tolerate nudity on the course? How many clubs tolerate litter louts? That is taking nit picking to the next level.
Dress code, dress standards, requirements of golfing attire - whichever way you want to address it, they are all the same.
Which means you have a dress code - you just want to call it something elseWe just have simple reasonable standards I imagine many clubs are the same. How many clubs tolerate nudity on the course? How many clubs tolerate litter louts?
