But who cares as the Gers are through :D :D :D :D

Could be the only British club left in the UEFA Cup. Maybe shows that there is not much else outside the big four in english football.

Bolton will probably score now and i will look a right fool

Congratulations Stuart.
Think it has to be said, though, that Spurs and Everton were unlucky last night and that Bolton have done well to get as far they did. Just shows the strength of the Premier League.

tottenham were mightily unlucky. I'm not sure who it was but someone on here said they had know chance at PSV. We beat them 1-0 in normal time, then held them (and dominated) through extra time despite it being in Eindhoven and our numbers just didn't come up in the lottery at the end. Everton were unlucky as well apprently and should have won in extra time. It could quite easily have been the case that three english clubs were in the quater final of the UEFA cup, much like there are four in the quaters of the champions league.

Bolton manager this morning is quoted as saying that his fielding a weaker side will be vindicated if they stay up.

If it were me, I'd prefer to at least try to keep in the competition so that if plan A fails you at least have a plan B.

Read it this morning too.

Just shows that there is too much money in the premiership. The prize money for staying in the premiership is bigger than winning the UEFA cup now.

Errm like there isnt any other teams except Gers and Celtic in Scotland who are at the same level as a mid table Prem team, also Boro made the final as well in '04 so your argument has fallen flat on its arse.

It always has been with TV revenue, the winners of the UEFA cup only receive half the gate receipts of the final and about £1m in prize money, the main cash in the Champ League is also the TV revenue that the last 8 split, the prize cash is about £4.6m for the winners.

I agree that there is only two teams in Scotland (did i say otherwise!!). Its what makes it such a poor league.

Yes Boro made it in 04 but with some unbelievable luck. Its just that the big four in England dominate the later stage of Champoins league year after year but it rarely happens UEFA cup, maybe it's because one of the places goes to the cup winners of a competition nobody cares about. Or as Bolton showed last night the whole tournament is not worrth bothering about.

As a lifelong Boro fan (no comments about last Sunday please), I saw Boro and luck mentioned in the same sentence and felt compelled to post.

It was actually 2006 we made it to the final. After which our luck ran out. Period. Fair enough, we did some amazing games to get us to the Final, the likes of which I will probably never see again. But since then. Well, picking up bans for non events (Alliadiere), non penalties (Villa on Wednesday night) - I could go on.

I have to say that approaching the game on Sunday, the whole of Middlesbrough looked at winning the FA cup as a chance to get back into Europe. Yes the Prem is important, but anybody who claims that they don't place emphasis on European football should not be in football.

Nuff said - this is a golf forum and I don't want to get slated for talking about about footy on it
