got mine last saturday and on wednesday I knocked it off a desk at work.. 2 1/2ft fall and the screen is mullered!

Now its my fault I agree but after having had several newest phones over the last 4 years including a samsung galaxy, iphone 3g and 3gs none of these have suffered from being dropped or small falls, which, most of us have done with our phones at some point.

Anyway after reading loads of info online about lots of people who have had the same outcome I went to the apple store just to test the water. £130 to replace the phone as obviously not covered by warranty. When I asked about this so called 20x stronger glass their response was it must have landed at the wrong angle!!!

So if you get a 4s, as nice as it looks please put it in the most robust case you can buy and if you do drop it accidentally make sure its at the right angle or it will be bolloxed :D

lesson learned... will get the screen done, sell it on ebay and go back to my 3gs

Dropped my 4 loads of times, so has the wee one, still no issues. I think apple were right with their summation unfortunately.

apparently its the corners that are prone. Not gonna risk it in future as would be paranoid lol.

good job it was free on upgrade or I would be proper gutted.

I would stick with your 4s mate. I had a 3gs and loved it until the home button started pressing itself constantly ornot working. It was out of warrenty so got on fleabay and ordered a new home button. Fitted it and it was just as bad so back to the forums to see what people had done. Most agreed it was a software problem and advised to put it into a recovery mode by pressing and holding the power button and the home button for 5 to 10 seconds. Trouble is with it pushing the home button itself constantly it wouldn't go into this recovery mode. It's now a paper weight.

Seems that Apple will charge you £130 no matter the issue. Two guys from work have iPhone 4's and had two very different issues, one the screen went like yours Gibbo and the other the charge point wasn't working. Took them to two different stores and, you guessed it, both quoted £130 for repairs...
As BT said Gibbo, get a screen off fleabay of the like and either replace yourself (loads of how to vids on youtube) or get a local repair shop to do it. Much cheaper.

This is the reason I chose GS2 over ip4. S2 looks cheap but do believe It has fallen mroe than 10 times and not even a single scratch on the glass :)

That's because it's just a refurbished/replacement service.

Which is why people are always trying to buy iPhones very cheaply, they buy them mega cheap then drop into an iPhone store and perform a replacement, and get a new phone.

No reason at all for the G2 to be any different. I've seen both of them with broken and scratched screens. It's exactly as was mentioned earlier and just depends if your lucky enough to have dropped it and it bounced the right way.

Apple and Samsung took two different design principles to achieve their phones. Apple went for tightly packed and rigid in design. The idea being that parts don't move much when shocked and remain I place. Samsung went for plastic more flexibility, bends more and this allows for some shock with giving up (usually at the expense of the plastic components). Neither way is correct,or perfect, and both can fail massively if dropped/bent in the right/wrong way.
