Wonder if McGinley is regreting his Ryder Cup picks?

And when I last looked Gallacher was on +6

*edit just checked +7 and Westwood on +2, what a nice way to set you self up for the RC

Getting of 'competitive on-course practice'!

Not too dis-similar to what happened to Jack's lot (or at least non-picks) too.

Westwood could well be reasonably happy with that score - as a 'build-up' too!

The Ryder Cup picks are always going to be based on past form on the PGA Tour and European Tour, and past Ryder Cup experience (in the case of Poults and Westwood), not one round at the Welsh Open, like the OP is suggesting.

To be honest I reckon I wouldn't be arsed if I was playing the week before.

I'd be thinking don't shoot yer bolt or injure myself.

Reading nothing into the form this week.

If I was in Westy or Stevie G's shoes I'd want to miss the cut this week, and have the weekend off before the big battle.

Highly doubt any regrets, unless he managed to predict the future but didn't write down who to and who not to pick!

Players earn their spots over a long period of time, the picks are again all deserve to be their based on past events. People hitting form with days to go have not earned a place in the team at all!

Also no one ever said the Ryder Cup was for the best performing players at that exact moment, its an event you EARN a place in, not fall into at the last moment!

It's hardly a major concern after one round of stroke play, it's quite likely good practice for them, maybe they are trying things in readiness for next week. Matclhplay after all is a very different beast.

Totally irrelevant IMHO. Personally, I wouldn't have picked Westwood anyway but what happens this week has no bearing either way.

So tell me, what, in the last two years has Lee Westwood done to EARN a place. I remember him winning in Malaysia against a weakish field but otherwise not much.

As for past Ryder Cup history I would say look at his singles record.

Youre right Westwood played pretty poorly over the last couple of years but that experience he has on and off the course is hugely important to the team. Players really respect and like him, he's a solid fun guy and no doubt will be a massive support to McGinley. I'm also sure Gallagher got the nod over Luke purely on the fact he is Scot and the crowd will get totally behind him. Its a very good "team" call by mcGinley IMO.
