Evening all,

Played Leeds Golf Club (Cobble Hall) this afternoon, there were five of us across two groups and it was decided the 7th would be a longest drive hole.

measured on GPS it was 235 yards, I'm not usually the longest hitter but was delighted to beat 15 and 21 handicappers.

Also got my first chip in, was maybe six yards off the green in three and used the 8 iron to chip and run, had a couple of close calls before but this one dropped.

Final score was 115, thanks to three lost balls (none before 11 and then two on that hole).

Off the tee was good, and putting (thank you Bob) was as better than ever. Just too many wayward iron shots.

Nice one, Not saying I do it all that often but it does feel great when a chip and run goes in and you know it as soon as it leaves the club face.
I cant wait to start playing comps again next year (if I can afford a membership), the long drive is something i'll always have a chance with. I was following the last group in a comp last time I played on a green fee and I was a good 30 yards past the long drive marker.

Nice one! Good news.

I normally ignore the long drive hole. Last week I played in Yorkshire and decided to give it a proper go.

I fancied the big boys would run out of fairway and my 10 yard fade would suit the hole. I was right, hit a good 'un (for me) and was in the running up until the last group.

Some bloke was 60 yards from the middle of the green. That's about 303 off yellow.....git!

The morning after the night before...

Still really chuffed with the way I played my tee shots, I got about half away and hit a couple of par three greens which is an improvements.

Also on the greens there were no four buts which are way to regular usually.

I changed my putting grip and used Bobs suggestion of widening the stance for longer putts, and someone else suggested to aim at the hole if you were unsure on the break. More often than not my distance control was good.

And I think the chip in was because of the new putting grip. I was told to use that grip for those shots and as soon as it left the club it was in. (Thankfully because it was down hill and would have probably been off the green in a bunker if it had missed...)

Homer, the course report will come, intended to do it this morning but am expected to do some work in the office unfortunatly!!!

Great news Spoff. Think how good you will become with more practice :)
Really happy for you. :D
I know, I would love to spend more time at the range and practice green.

Anyone care to take my wife and child off my hands to help me out :D

Bob, any tips for getting out of bunkers? In four yesterday and took seven shots to get out of them.

edit: first person to say 'don't go in the bunkers' gets a 3 wood round the chops :D

Ladder

Ball just inside your left heal.
Aim a few yards left.
Point the leading edge of the club at the flag (open the face)
Hold the club at the bottom of the grip
Hit the sand between 3-5 inches behind the ball and about 2" deep and swing through to a HIGH FINISH, dont stab at it and quit on the follow through.
Swing to the left, not towards the flag.
