If it wasn't UK courses I may well have gone for this one,

Ain't she pretty?

Slime.

mmmmmmmm tough one this. Without seeing what they are like as a members club I could not choose between the big places like Sunningdale, Wentworth, Woburn etc etc, without finding out what they are like as a members club.

Mmmm - club to join rather than club you'd like to play - I'd choose my previous club Alford Golf Club in Aberdeenshire - decent little course kept really immaculate these days - when i was there you put your name down in a half hour time space and got drawn with anyone who had opted for similar time - within a couple of months I knew nearly everyone at the club, good, bad and indifferent - I miss that badly, really friendly place to play as a vistitor at an open - but so much better as a member.

If we are talking about courses and welcome when visiting - then Royal Dornoch, Alyth, Forfar, Monifieth, Lahinch, Loch Lomond and Blairgowrie are some of the best I've experienced - I could play any of them every day (except Loch Lomond which would be perfect if Scotland had Portugal's climate) and be happy.

Birkdale or Formby for me. Not had the pleasure of the Surrey sand belt yet, but id imagine they would be up there given the comments on this thread.

Don't know, but it wouldn't be in Great Britain.

Probably all the courses in Barbados. Played the "municipal" one there once and even that was good.

Well if I am not allowed to go abroad it would have to be Broadstone. A forty minute drive but hey ho you can't have everything.

Richard, I know a couple of Sunningdale members and they say it is a proper club with a real members feel. Ditto Hankley - I know two members well and am always made to feel very welcome. People often say that West Sussex is too stuffy and unwelcoming but it simply isn't true. I know loads of people there and it is a wonderful club. I think it is difficult to get a genuine feel for a place without 3+ visits.

The only issue with being a Sunningdale member might be that it gets pretty busy. I am now theoretically considering a switch to Swinley as I love it. Or St Georges Hill? It has the rackets club there and the houses are nice although I wouldn't want Russian Mafia neighbours!

Decisions, decisions!

I will take your advice on Sunningdale, but living five minutes from Hankley I know quite a few members there that I wouldn't want to play with !!!!! The clubhouse also closes at 7.00 pm in the summer. Forces you to change in the car park if you are playing after 3.00 and no post round beer.:(

St Georges Hill would be on my list, as I have always found the Club very friendly. Same goes for the Berkshire.

My criteria for a club would be a great course, but it must also be somewhere I will feel welcome and where 'everyone knows your name'

Good thread this one.

Alford is great isn't it! Played it once or twice and really like it!! Where are you a member at now?

Member at Grange golf club, play over Monifieth Golf Links - love the course, club is friendly and well run but I used to love the being mixed up with people you didn't know in competitions - get to know people real quickly that way

Birkdale for links or The Berkshires for inland golf. Close call with Sunningdale but that gets very busy with societies and visitors plus the Red course at the Berkshires has the variety of 6 holes of each par which makes it very varied and fun to play. And it is a proper members course.

All those opting for Wentworth...have you played there? It is so corporate it's untrue, wouldn't touch membership there with a barge pole

Not sure about the membership there though Tiger.

Your invite just got lost in the post! :ears:

If money were no object, I'd upgrade my current membership to Senate status..

Re Wentworth, one of our new members is a guest there...I play with him a couple of times a week.......he hardly plays Wentworth at all now....

I would not leave my club - one of my very favourite courses and a really fun, friendly club. But I would have more away days and if I could take a couple of other memberships, would settle for a links (Saunton/Porthcawl/Formby or Hillside) and a Heath (Hankley, Sunningdale or The Berkshire).

I would join Wentworth.

P.s - don't need unlimited funds to join Woburn

If it's local then I would have to stay at Woodhall but if it's UK and time wasn't an issue then either Loch Lomond as it looks stunning or Woburn as i love the place but With unlimited funds I wouldn't join a club as I would just love to play so many different courses.

Enough money would mean a house right next to the course and enough money never to need to work again.... if that's the case then I'd be more than happy to live in Uckfield and join East Sussex National. 2 x championship courses, no temps, 3 practice greens, short game area, covered driving range on mats and grass range with FREE balls, sauna and steam room - PERFIK!

Just can't justify the 40min drive to get there right now!!

I played there Sunday just gone JO and it's a great complex and a very mint course but something was missing for me to fall in love with it as I thought I would. I played the west course and it was only £35 :)
