Had a great winter scoring realy well in most rounds, so how come we move back to white tees and I cant hit the dam ball. No matter how hard I try my game is in pieces. Question, should I stop trying so hard and relax or dash off to the pro and get more lessons.

Weather the storm, I say. It'll come. Depending on your h'cap you could just play safe on the potential disaster holes for a few games.

Maybe you are trying too hard? Just ignore the colour of the tees and play like you have been. Of course, it could just be one of the joys of amateur golf, inconsistency :)

If you've been playing well all winter, don't worry too much about it a ride it out. you'll come good again soon.

The whites add about 600 yards to our course and on a few holes over 40 yards each. Mind you it didn't seem a problem in the last medal as the driver was behaving itself and hitting it miles down the middle. Let's hope it lasts.

I will vouch for that, i played really badly all the last week and i think i played every day (making the most of the half term). At the H4H meet I was crap and then the following day i shot a 74 in our monthly medal (hcp 12.5, 45 points and a win). Today? 31 points off a new hcp of 11.4.

Safe to say i'll get .1 back and be back off 12 next time out!!

First medal of the Summer after a season of shooting well under my handicap in winter conditions . . . . . . . Walked off with a flippin 96, lost 2 balls on the course, hit another 2 OOB , 3 x putts , and had a sh1tter of a bunker shot to contend with on our par 3 9th, where i walked off with a 5.

Thats golf i guess,,,,,,,, At the end of the day the sun was shining, the banter was good and there could have been worse ways to spend a saturday avo

What a great attitude to have. I don't know if you are a junior golfer or that's just your user name, however if that's your attitude and your still a junior I really admire it. The juniors at my club think there Tiger Woods. Slamming and throwing clubs because they don't hit the green from 250 yards out, don't hole bunker shots and the sands kicked up in disgust.

Great attitude.

Hi Craw, nope, not a junior, its just a nick name thats stuck from my cricketing days.

I've been putting too much pressure on myself to chase a score so this is my philosophy on the course this year....I reckon there's a medal score in me if I just relax and play.

We've gone from winter tees and greens to playing off the whites to summer greens.

It's like a different course, fairway bunkers which were easily driven over are suddenly bang on the length of a good drive and all the greenside protection is back in play.

On one of our par 3's we were taking a wedge off the tee over winter, today into a breeze off the white's I hit a 5 wood to 8ft past the pin (missed the birdie putt coming back doh!)

It's going to take a few more rounds to get the club selection dialled in me thinks :D

It's like a different course

At mine, the whites on the last 4 holes ARE a different course. 75/20/50/30 yards longer. Added to this the whites are hard left whereas the yellows are right. O.O.B. is more in play on 2 holes and you can't hit a fade off the tee on 16 and 18....there are trees in the way. :D

I could live with the length, but I can't live with the other stuff. :D

On most holes our white tees are all of 5 yards behind the yellows. With the exception of a couple of holes the course plays the same so we've effectively been playing the whole course all winter so there's no change to get used to.

I like the sound of that. I played away yesterday off whites and even as a short hitter, the long holes weren't an issue.
In fairness to my course, some of the holes are actually more "logical" off the white tees. They are extending the S.I. 1 hole from 410 to 450. At 410 it's nasty because the drive is uphill and a solid drive loses 20 yards. Off the back (when it's finished) I suspect there will me more room to aim a little left (away from the o.o.b.) and then although probably not reachable, ought to be an easy 3-shotter. Probably less dangerous out of reach for a 5/nett 4

Same here. During the summer the members can play off the whites at all times. It is strange how a hole seems so much more difficult when you are teeing off just 5/10 yards further back though!

Ours are almost all exactly 10 yards, a couple are 6 or 7 back and 2 of the par 3s 15 and 20 respectively. The biggest difference is the SI2 which goes from 392 to 431. We always play off white tees for medals throughout the year so we're used to them.

we had winter tees on 16 out of 18, either well forward or a completely different line. one hole is played down a different fairway and the 17th off the normal tee-box but well forward. they aren't worried about this as a new tee has been made close to 60 yds further back and well over to the right side.

besides the swing change, I'm finding pitches the least accurate as I'm hitting wedges further than last summer.

Ours is a bit of a mix. There are some holes where there is little difference, quite a few where there are 30 yards difference and a couple of over 50 yards. Including one par 3 which jumps to 232 yards.

Played again today did as junior sugested enjoyed the company didnt try to hard and all became calm. much better round. Now need to carry that forward to the midweek medal.

Our 16th becomes a short par 4 as opposed to a long par 3 which is better for me :) Apart from the 10th, the whites only add on an extra 5 - 10 yards per hole so not that different.
