I often over-prepare - wind/showerproof and waterproof - and the flask of wobbly coffee (though alcohol, St Bernards not withstanding, is not the best option).

Hypothermia is no fun, doesn't care if it's winter or summer or how fit/unfit you are.

I've had to help bring in idiots out of a blizzard who went out unprepared (though in their - partial - defence, it was May) even for light rain. (Six ended up with mild hypothermia we could treat ourselves, one in hospital).
I've since had arctic training, the fun stuff no sleeping bags, build your own shelters etc.

It's bordering on criminally stupid to go out unprepared and equally stupid (not macho) not to use it when its needed.

I practically take an entire wardobe of clothes with me as once start walking I get boiling, then rain comes in so need full waterproofs, then get hot again. I do think we have the worst climate in the entire world for golf as you never know what weather is doing from minute to next. I recommend those long sleeved tight stretchy things by Nike which can be worn under polo shirt - not only looks cool but adds an extra layer without doing impression of michelin man.

A decent base layer is essential. Hence a bit peeved at burning a hole in my helly. Not sure why I was ironing it, it was just in the pile, looking a bit creased.

Underarmour do a nice slightly fleecy one that I saw in american golf. Proper toasty. I am always cold on the course, so this could be for me. They also do a cool beanie too. Hmm, wonder if Santa knows....

I have just joined Shotts Golf Club and it is open to the elements so you have to go prepared. I always pack the lot cos you can take it off but if it isn't in your bag, you can't put it on.

In regards to the weather, Billy Connolly got it spot on when he said:

THERE ARE TWO SEASONS IN SCOTLAND .... JUNE AND WINTER

body warmer or jumper is the most I will ever wear, I just cannot swing in a full on wetsuit. Invest in a good umbrella and keep a towel tucked into it and you have no reason to get wet nor your hands.

You and me both, also the wet gear trooosers are such an arse.....takes me ages to get things out of my pockets.

Don't often play in any of this stuff. Horrible!!

In Shropshire and over the border into Wales, we have 4 seasons but sadly only two types of weather, raining or July 22nd.

(same joke, I know, but it never rains as much on the coast in Wales, all the rain waits to hit the border hills and/or Snowdon!)

Better not rain tomorrow.....

Where I live in the Vale of LLangollen, they say that if you can see the mountains, it's going to rain, and if you can't see the mountains, it's raining already. How true.

And to think Llangollen actually has 26% less precipitation than the Ceriog Valley....that must be impossible! (or made up).

For some weird reason, Llanymynech does quite well for weather.....maybe the God of Wales doesn't want to waste his water on 1/2 an English course!!!
