After nearly conceeding my first round match of the club matchplay comp because I am playing so poorly I'm pleased to report my shoddy swing has just earned me a place in round 2 with a 4&3 victory. I was giving away 11 shots and wasn't at my best by any stretch but I managed to keep it in play. My oppo let me off the hook a couple of times but that's the way it goes.

It was ugly but a win is a win. Gonna need to improve for round 2

Well done matey. I'm struggling to get hold of my opponent so not sure what I can do. I've mailed the club for advice but on last years evidence got a gut feeling if we can't get it sorted we're both out. the number in the directory is wrong and I saw the guy (only seen him once) in the car park and he said he'd call me and hasn't.

On a side note I'm off tomorrow if you fancy a knock tomorrow afternoon

does your club not have a challenge book , usually who ever is drawn out first has to make the challenge, within certain dates, and so much notice. failure to , means the other goes through to next round after entering your name in the next round on the sheet, which should be in locker room.it can be a battle of wits

Nope. Rules state if the match isn't played by the date both players are out unless there are mitigating circumstances or you put something in writing before the closing date. As the number in th diary and the club have is wrong I've no way of contacting him. He has verbally agreed to call me as both my home and mobile numbers are right and he hasn't

hence the reason for challenge books ,tel. no's .dates offered and dates accepted written by players in person / the evidence is there to be seen by all. a lot of scull duggery goes on ,so watchout

Nothing wrong with winning ugly.

won an open at the end of last year that way. Shanked a chip on the 5th, didn't chip again putted everything. it didn't look good but a win is a win and by 3 shots.

I'd rather win ugly than lose!

Or is that too competitive?!
