Wine recommendation

Is that a recent thing with Naked, when I tried it (admittedly a few year ago) I thought it was independent

Not sure, I was always under the impression that naked wines, virgin wines etc were all Laithwaites in the background

Majestic have seemed a little more expensive over the last couple of years.
Our local one is still a good place to go though, if your knowledge of wine is limited to just knowing a few wines that you like and a few you don't. The staff have always been really helpful at guiding me towards something similar to my tastes and often offer to crack a couple of bottles open to let you have a taste. Better than blindly cruising the supermarket shelves and going by the description on the label. Probably worth the extra couple of quid per bottle.
BiL and FiL are both wine snobs (not meant pejoratively) and have raved about Naked, Virgin, etc in the past, but no longer bother.

used Laithwaites a bit a few years back and have visited some stores nearby. All good. Don't know much about Naked Wiines but they are on the stockmarket and valued at £464m with an EV of £410m but shares are down 25% since September

just checking - Naked is Majestic! Well, Majestic's e-commerce start up

Naked was never associated with Laithwaites. Though it was a 'mail order' wine supplier.
Laithwites owned/ran Virgin Wines for a while (from 5 years after Branson set it up). VW became independent through an MBO and is now looking to list as a PLC.
There has been a quite a bit of 'corporate activity' in the drinks industry over the years.

Thanks for that, I understood that naked wines was more 'corporate' than it appeared but that would tie in with Fundy's comments about Majestic. Got a bit confused as Laithwaites used to, I think, be involved in a plethora of mail order wine companies (Times Wine Club etc) so assumed they were the corporate with naked wines

Having read some of the wine press, there seems to be some consternation about the prices and how it can continue. Especially if they can keep providing the quality of wines they profess to at the beginning.

yeah but they have now sold on the bricks and mortar majestic shops etc to Fortress it seems, so naked wines and majestic shops not the same business anymore (since 2019)

Which of the many wine punting companies are you referring to?

Don't be such a prat!
I think you’ll find that not wanting to discuss something with you makes me anything but a prat, in fact most would say the opposite.
If I wish to discuss wine with an actual expert I will contact a master or wine at my wine merchants, my cellar manager, or a master sommelier at my club.

A single word reply was all that was needed....no 'discussion' was required. I even updated my post with the merchant I thought you meant, so maybe only 3 letters, though you posted before I had saved the update.
Anyway...Not interested in wasting time, so back on ignore you go!
