What a load of rubbish.
For one thing, the best wines from Chile are generally made from Carmenare. Mistaken for Merlot.
Sorry but it’s not rubbish, it’s twaddle.!!!!…!!!!

There's no way anyone can call anyone's opinion/preference that! That's also the reason for my 'generalisation alert'! And I've deleted my other correction - as Hobbit had already posted it!What a load of rubbish.

If you thought you were drinking Chilean Merlot, you were probably drinking Carmenere. There's no way anyone can call anyone's opinion/preference that! That's also the reason for my 'generalisation alert'! And I've deleted my other correction - as Hobbit had already posted it!
Though I was remiss not mentioning Carmenere (which I, unlike you, at least spell correctly!). It wasn't as freely available in my 'Chilean' period (before 'finding' Argentinian Malbec)!
1. I'm no expert. If you thought you were drinking Chilean Merlot, you were possibly drinking Carmenere.
It was mistaken by the growers, buyers etc...and apparently, by an expert such as yourself.
Remember the bold bit, it’ll be useful on most threads ?1. I'm no expert.
2. I (perhaps foolishly?) go by what's on the label!
But (given my correction in bold), I'd agree.
It's surely 'a given' - for (nearly) all of us!Remember the bold bit, it’ll be useful on most threads ?
Another option for a nice smooth red would be rioja, nice and oaky, mellow, but with a bit more body than a pinot or chianti
Just been given a couple of bottles by a client, and whilst they aren't up to whilst I'll be drinking this Christmas, I'll certainly enjoy them at some point.Someone mention Rioja? There’s some poor ones but there’s also some stunning ones.

To the OP, I would recommend going for a supermarket's own label, especially Sainsbury's Taste the Difference range. If you can get them when reduced, or part of an offer, they are well worth buying/drinking.
I was looking at the Sainsbury's site today after seeing some recommendations on Decanter and it's buy 6 get 25% off too.
Ballcocks, was going to go in tomorrowbe quick ends today i think
