On another note what is the cheapest ball that does offer some check?

At the minute, as I've said above the blemished FG Tours. £15 for 12 premium balls which have no true faults to affect performance. That's a bargain. You can even get them in Yellow on Ebay for about £16 so a little easier to spot in the cabbage lol.
