I'd noticed a bit of love for the Wilson Staff DX3 on peoples sig's etc... what are peoples opinion on them? Great price for a 3 piece ball it seems?

Wedge play, I'm presuming a soft feel as well? It seems like there should be a catch somewhere for these ball being priced at £17.99 a dozen at DG, but so far it appears there isn't.

no they dont grate, i play them because of price first then performance. they are a very durable ball compared to the wisoln fg tour ball. i tend to stick to the same ball. so currently dx3 with some found prov1 as provisional balls (if i need them lol). also there are dx2 but i prefer the dx3 for putting.
i also use srixon adddd whatever during the winter again another cheap decent ball.

shop around clubhouse golf do deals

Yep, I love them. Really good feel off my putter face and not too lively.

I used to get them from my local American Golf for £10 per dozen!

My go to ball for general play, If I play somewhere nice with good greens then I'll play a Z star or Lethal. DX3 are just an honest good ball. Do not expect the ball to stop and spin back, that's not going to happen but they are good on the green, as long as any other ball and stable off the driver. Not a lot to fault really.

I use them because of the cost compared to provs as I am too lazy to hunt for the full 5 minutes. I lose a bit of distance but its better than crying every time I splash a 4 pound ball.

The other day I bought Srixon distance balls to have as practice balls. They were 2 dozen for £15 from sports direct. I have admit they seemed pretty decent, although i can't comment on what they are like around the green.

I guess I'm the only person in the world who doesn't use these then....

I'm not convinced about their distance with the longer clubs (wood/hybrid) they feel almost too soft (and that's from someone who's happy playing a Srixon Softfeel or Pro V1) but with a firm cover (which helps them last but that's not particularily high on my priorities for golf balls as I loose them before wearing them out most of the time).

In my view they are an OK ball at a great price with a quite distinctive feel that will suit some people.

OTOH their FG Tour X ball is really excellent and is welcome in my bag anytime I find one :)

Would be interested to know how much of an upgrade the 2013 model has over the old one. I got several boxes of last years for £10 and they definitely presented the best value/performance for me.

Looking at the range available from AG at the moment I ,personally, would be giving more consideration to the blemished FG Tours at £15.

I am really interested in trying these, as soon as I lose the rest of the AD333's I have left.

Anyone able to offer any insight into how they compare, in particular around the greens?

I think they're great around the greens and nice to putt with. I have an insert putter, which may explain why my opinion differs to Homer's.

But I hate the AD333.

Hi mate, they are nice and long off the tee with a penetrating flight, no ballooning. They do not spin excessively so they do not tend to exaggerate a hook/slice spin. Like the 333 there is little or no check off the wedges but they sit down faster then the Srixons. They do feel soft off the putter face but I find they putt nice and consistent ball to ball. Get 3 and try them. Just one more thing the one thing they do have in common with the 333, put them in the cabbage and they are a bugger to find.

Cheers for that! I might have to pass on them knowing they are hard to find, unless they do a new model with some kind of in built klaxon to help find them!

On another note what is the cheapest ball that does offer some check?

I've used them quite a bit and reading the other comments I think balls are very much a case of personal preference.

If I compare them to the Bridgestone E6 and Srixon AD333 I would say that in terms of distance the E6 is the shortest with the Wilson being longer and comparable to the AD333.

In terms of feel they are pretty good but I find that both the E6 and AD333 give more feed back and feel when putting, with the E6 just having the edge.

Spin wise when chipping the E6 doesn't stop as well as either the Wilson or AD333. Out of the 3 the Wilson may just edge it over the AD333 but not by a noticeable difference.

After using the 3 extensively I prefer the AD333 however I would be happy to buy any of the 3 balls mentioned if a good offer comes along.
