Wilson fatshaft ?

When I went for my irons at the start of march I asked the same question and was told that it was to stop the club 'twisting' if the ball is struck off centre thus giving more forgiveness. Thought they looked horrible though so didn't bother even trying them out. Bit vain on my part but I think it would put me off my swing!

thats the kind of answer iwas lookimg for. sounds like a load of rubbish tbh!

my bro had the fatshaft driver! im with you in thinking they are awful looking. they just wouldnt inspire confidance!

I had a set of fat shaft Tour cast irons and the wood. They were designed to stop torque (twisting) and to be honest once you got over the hideous size of the shaft they just seemed to perform like any other club. I wasn't bowled over by them or put off and to be honest the shaft was never an issue but I did upgrade to a set of Cally X14's

Yep, my 1st set of popper set of irons were Wilson Fat shaft Deep Red and I loved them. As has been said its to cut down club head twist but I believe it can be done in other ways now with better shaft materials and technology. I don't think it was rubbish and I think Wilson still use it in some clubs?!

Terrible name as well... fat is a duff in most golfers parlance so not sure the association is too clever!

There will always be innovations that work and become the norm and those that just seem to be terrible white elephants. Not sure anyone really knows before they launch.

Taylor Made Bubble shafts anyone?

Cool so drivers will go back to being black soon then!!!

Ive got a Fatshaft hybrid.

Its great. It doesnt look any different at address and works really well too. I love the club, and i'd certainly not rule another out.

I had fatshafts in my DI7s but did not notice any real difference. Only thing was that nobody would adjust them if you wanted any kind of fitting after the initial purchase.
