Wilson dropping women?

I personally think its sour grapes as offloading a single lady golfer from the stable is hardly an indicator or statement of not targeting lady golfers! I think if a lady golfer is winning tournaments, has a certain visibility inside and outside of the golfing arena, then brands from all markets inside and outside of golf will be interested in that person, Karen had no sponsor other than Wilson from what I can see or find!

That's dangerous as she effectively has no income what-so-ever now to enter and get to tournaments!

As I said I thought that too.... But here's what she actually said:

@Kstupples: Just got word from @WilsonGolf that they no longer want to market to women...so they are one and done with me.

And when asked if they "seriously" said that, she confirmed it. Would be interesting to get wilson's take on it.

Did notice an interesting tweet on her list, not from her though, about being ' hard at work on my putting stroke with the Taylormade True Path'!

I think the big question on this is; when did Wilson produce any new Women's kit. Yes they retail "lots" of women's kit in the likes of AG but it seems to have been the same stuff for ages as the Mens range has evolved to include the FG tour, then the V2 and then the FG62 (lovely). But the women's kit is not updating at all.
The wife constantly asks, how hard is it to take a club head that's traditionally "mens" and reshaft it in ladies or lite (as she uses).
Wilson may very well be viewing this as a narrow market and adjusting accordingly. Not so sure that the fall out will affect them per se, they don't exactly advertise huge at the moment and people who will buy Wilson gear will probably not put off by this. Wouldn't stop me buying a set of FG62's...

Sounds massively like sour grapes to me from Stupples. She's hardly been setting the world alight the last couple years and perhaps Wilson want to look at someone that is breaking through the ranks to push the brand on in the future rather than living off a past glory.

Also regards to the kit, this year Wilson are overhauling their range with the launch of the D100 range aimed to rival other brands products, it falls into the bracket the likes of the xhot from callaway and amp from cobra and rocketbladz from TM. What's important about this well they are launching a whole new Ladies range in the series to, it's a right through the bag revamp with the Driver, fairways and hybrids superseding the DXI range and the irons taking over from the Ci9 and Di11.

So for Stupples to say they aren't aiming at ladies anymore is a little short sighted when all she needs to do is look at their website and see the launch that's coming up for the new ladies and men's ranges, complete with online fitting and links to local fitters for golfers.

Do Wilson or any of the others actually produce women only gear in terms of clubs. I would have thought for the top players the heads would have been the same as the mens and it would come down to better suited shafts etc. I have followed this on Twitter and Karen does seem put out and can't wait to see here side of the story on her blog and ideally get a Wiison take.

I don't think Wilson have a huge stable of professional players these days anyway and so their profile isn't huge compared to the other players in the market. Yes I think Stupples has struggled but she isn't the only pro in male and female golf to have dips. Ping didn't drop Westwood when he dropped to 300+ in the rankings and others have seen a degree of loyalty. Swings and roundabouts I guess and down to whether Wilson see her as a marketable commodity or not in this case

That's the key for me. I don't think she has a great degree of visibility off the course. Sat on the sponsorship a little blasé and hasn't really achieved much lately and hasn't got herself out into the public domain to give her sponsors something back.

Its a 2-way street.

I don't think anything would stop me buying a set! Even just to look at - sooooooo priddy!

I'd be absolutely amazed if any large reputable company came out and said they weren't interested in marketing to women any more word spreads far too quickly nowadays for such a statement to go unnoticed!

well Sky Sports picked up on the tweet a couple of days ago and asked KS for confirmation - they hadn't had a response when I looked yesterday and I'm not looking again!

Just for fellow lovers of the FG62 WILSO_FG62_IRONS-st-2.jpg

I'm so tempted to buy these..

Back to Stupples though, I think they want a fresher image to go with the new gear that will get more exposure than her.

Just saying there must be hundreds/thousands of websites like this one and we're upto the 4th page now, without confirmation, I think it'd go through the roof if it was definite that Wilson had said they were stopping female marketing!

She's simply calmed down or someone has whispered in her ear that what she was inferring had legal implications.

Anyway, looks like Lynx have made a move on her.

So by her own admission Wilson have stuck with her when she has not been giving 100%.

Hardly something to own up to when looking for a new sponsor.
