I was out tonight for our midweek stableford and had just finished the 7th when the heavens opened and there was some very close thunder and lightning.

After about 5 minutes wait and no let up and the lightning not really seeming any further away we decided it was too dangerous to carry on. There was also a layer of hail on the greens by now but assume that in itself wouldn't have been a good enough reason to stop.

There was nobody around official to ask what to do so we wrote the above on our cards, didn't enter scores on PSI and out cards in the box.

Was what we did right and what should we expect handicap wise?

I have had injury on the course and the .1 was scrapped,, I'd be staggered if it wasn't cancelled for lightening

You certainly did the right thing stopping!

It's still blasting away quite close to me.

I strongly suspect your rounds will be cancelled. As the weather has been 'variable' I suspect that completed rounds will count though.

You'd hope so wouldn't you Chris but I just thought I'd seen somewhere (probably on here) that course closure has to official (although none with that authority left there I wouldn't have thought)

The handicap should treat the comp as cancelled but can still have it as a qualifier

Uncompleted rounds are ignored and possibly completed cards used for handicap purposes

Players have the right to discontinue play without reference to the Committee when there is a danger from lightning. See Rule 6-8a.

If your club uses the "sign-in" facility then cards not subsequently put in PSI can be treated as 0.1 by default (this is configurable so may or may not be the case at your club). If whoever finishes the comp pays no attention or misses what you wrote on your cards then this may happen so you may need to raise it to get yourself removed from the comp.

Neither myself playing partner or another two guys I saw coming in at the same time as us appear in the results so all good I assume.

Thanks

I believe that as long as you marked the ball where you picked up,and the game as not resumed your card can be put in the psi ,

We had a similar thing the other week. It lashed it down throughout the round. Got to the 11th green and we couldn't putt to the hole as the water wS running across the green. Decided to abandon the round and route the reasons on the card. Quite a few people had done the same. The comp wasn't abandoned but was done on reductions only. Common sense prevailed.
