Why does my mind go blank, and empty when I step foot on a course?

It could possibly be the opposite of what you are saying Robert- is it possible you have too many thoughts when you walk up to hit the ball? Best just clearing your mind and think target and tempo- everything else just bogs down your mind

I echo what a few guys on here are saying. Get yourself a solid pre shot routine, Visualize the shot, big deep breath and then just set up and try and be relaxed as you can be before hitting the shot you have seen when visualizing. This has helped me no end anyways.

For me its alignment.....I can smash ball after ball at the range, the way the bay and mat are aligning me and feel like a pro. it's different when I try to pick specific targets across the whole range. Doing this and putting a bit of pressure on myself by hitting driver, then iron, then wedge etc etc makes it a little more challenging.

bit of a hard pill to maybes swallow OP - afraid the bottom line is you are at the range but you not really practicing effectively in a ways that will improve the outcomes of the game overall

Same here. This was exactly my problem. When I told my coach fine on the range and all over the place on the course the first thing she did was get me hitting some off the grass next to the range. My aim was way off, and inconsistent. That's how I got the pre-shot routine I use now. Picking an intermediate target to aim at has made a massive difference.

When I went back on the course afterwards it just amazed me where I had been aiming vs where I should have been.

The OP sounds like a man after my own heart. So many times I've hit it well off grass on the practice ground or at the range and gone out positive today's the day and performed like a prize numpty. A lot of my issues aren't actually swing related and it's been how I thought about stuff on the course that was my biggest problem. Since I used New Golf thinking my head is empty of swing thoughts and I think clearer. I don't always hit the shots well, and that is purely down to the idiot holding it but my head is in a better place. The issue I'd have with the OP would be the drives going right regularly which may just be a minor flaw a simple lesson would cure and suggest the rest is probably too much expectation, tempo issues on the course and simply trying too hard and thinking too much about the hows and whys

Make your practice more like real golf. How often do you hit 10 seven irons in a row? Only at the range !
A book worth reading that really elaborates on this is "every shot must have a purpose"
They advocate practice putting one ball to several holes instead of several balls to one hole

:D

Hope the injury is healing well

Not too bad at the moment thanks Phil. The aim is to put a bit of fitness work in over the winter instead of freezing out on the course so I can enjoy the season more next year. Hope you are good and I've heard that your game is in pretty good shape mate. Keep up the good work.

Will be good to see you back out on the course - seems a bad year for you

Yeah I have been solid all year - enjoyed some really good days and meets

Not been the best but not been the worst in recent years. I'll be back next year with rippling muscles and a six pack, or at least just a bit slimmer than present! Have played a fair bit in between episodes though so not been all bad.

Glad to hear you've been playing solid stuff all year Phil, will look forward to getting a game or two in next year and let you give me a shot or two. Gutted I've missed a few of the meets this year, will look to rectify that next year for sure.
