I cant really answer the OP directly because im only playing the game 2 years and i cant see me ever giving it up.....But....
I was forced to retire from playing football 2 years ago (What directed me to taking up this wonderful game) because of a ruptured Achilles Tendon....Something im proud to say i shared with David Beckham....
I had intended to play until i was 40 but it was cut 6 years short....
But 6 weeks ago i went back training with my old team and its like i never left...I still have the hunger with the exception of the fitness being a little off but the initial signs are good.
2 years on and the leg seems ok (fingers crossed) but because of how well my golf game is going recently its still has my preference over the footie.....
At least the footie will keep me fit but it'll be a long time before i get sick of the golf me thinks
