Why do high handicappers...

My advice: don't listen to me.

Oh believe me I'm trying my hardest... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Of course we could ask why someone with no handicap isn't willing to listen to advice but I'm not sure I have enough of a will to live left in me....

A high handicapper can still see if someones stance is open or the club face is open, it doesn't matter what the handicap of the person is. For myself I know what I've done wrong it's getting the body to do it right, so someone with more physical ability has more of a right to comment on a golf swing, nonsense.

Timmy

How can you think that as nothing more than a range jockey with no official handicap you are better placed than some of the single figure guys and pros on here to give advice. As you have no handicap mate I'd class you in the high handicap bracket until your handicap certificate says otherwise. Based on that I'd listen to advice on here like I do with all views but take it with a pinch (large in your case) of salt.

Like a lot of others I prefer my partners not to give me advice on the course if it is going poorly. 9/10 I know the problem and usually the fix although applying it during the round is often harder than trying to keep it straight. If it persists then its off to the practice ground to work through it or a word/lesson with my pro

How many world class football managers were world class players first? Most people would agree it's easier to know what you're meant to do than it is to actually do it.

I think it's known as 'talking a good game'

On a more serious note. I'll take observations from anyone, after all it's up to me if I use or ignore the information. I've never been hung up on the whole what's your handicap thing. But it does depend on how that observation is put across.

On another note, one doesn't have to be a great golfer to understand the mechanics of golf if one has spent a lot of time researching and studying it. But that of course is just my opinion.

I believe generally that most observations or opinion given on this site is meant genuinely or as part of the posters own experiences. It would be a shame if a lot of forumers stopped posting for fear of 'reprisals' from so called better golfers.

One other thing. Just because you're a good golfer, doesn't make you an expert on swing mechanics, you might just be naturally talented!

Live and let live.

You are far too sensible. :)

I spent way too much time on a forum once where I was a genuine expert trying to field off the rubbish and point people in the right direction.
Now, I just share my knowledge on here in the hope of helping someone out. I know my posts are mostly unhelpful for those with more experience but I don't think I'd enjoy the one-way traffic of some forums.
I like the way the forum operates, even if timgolfy needs to have the word huge erased from his profile. Perhaps he could meet up with hindmarshsl to eat some humble pie.
:D

...insist on giving so much advice? Even if I were a scratch player I think I'd be reluctant to dish it out, just in case what I was saying was potentially unsettling. Yet 5+, 10+, 20+ and even people without handicaps are dishing it out willy nilly.

Offer opinions, yes, but please don't tell a person he's wrong (not unless your name is Luke Donald, you coach Luke Donald, or you know that person's game intimately).

Im a little confused with your statement Tim.
From what experience have you concieved this notion that High Handicappers offer so much advice?

I consider myself a high handicapper and i would never offer advice to someone better than me for anything...

Now someone of a higher handicap maybe, yes ,and at a push i would be giving then my experience of what helped me overcome a certain issue it may not help them but it never hurts to try!

exactly those who play can , those who cant teach ,or something like that

Except that's also a bad cliche. There are more things in life to be good at where you don't make much money doing that thing than the other way around. Teaching is the pragmatic answer for many people.

To be fair to all, this was a naughty thread. I like to do things my own way and don't like to be told that I'm wrong. Even if Bubba Watson were giving me advice I'd probably ignore it (unless I happened to agree with him).

A very naughty post. I bet I know what caused it though...

You were winding up for another big one, let fly...and unfortunately topped it. You then swore and said "what the hell happended then, I NEVER do that", resulting in the little old man* in the next bay telling you to keep your head down. Am I right?! :D

*This does not mean I think all little old men are high-handicappers / cannot play golf. After all, what do I know :o

bit of a condescending tw*t.....and with no handicap spouting off

Using Timgolfy's analogy, ie "I Hit the ball a long way, therefore I AM a good golfer", I am sure that if you put me in a Ferrari 430 and let me loose on an empty M1 I could probably hit 190mph, - does that mean I am therefore an extremely talented Driver and should really be in F1 after all ???

Same thing surely ?

Wind up merchant of highest order, go back to the range pls.
