Who's watching the Liverpool match?

There lies the problem. If we are to be a genuine threat to Man City and Chelsea then some kind of financial investment is needed.
From the keeper into the holding midfield positions I think we are not too bad when everyone is fit, we do have 2 players in every position and those back up players are not too bad. Who do we really have in the more advanced roles though that are proven Premier League players? Couthino, Sturridge, Sterling, Suarez and Henderson.

I would disagree on the go through to the holding player - they IMO are the weak areas

Mignolet is a decent shot stopper but he decision making and distribution is poor - in fact worse than poor. He has made a lot of mistake this season - never agreed with his signing and letting Pepe go - it weakened us. If we were going to get a GK and kick out Pepe then we should have got Begovic

The back four is a big worry

Left back - need a top player to play there with Enrique as back up
Right back - options here - Flano , Kelly and Johnson

CB's - Agger - quality but his injuries are too much now . Toure - poor , poor , poor . Sahko - waste of 18mil - decent player but £18mil !! . Skrtel has been the shining light but even he is prone to mistakes

The midfield - Desperately need a destroying type player in there or someone with a physical presence - currently we have no one and get bullied in there. Creativity - we have none from the middle

The guys up front - think that's our strong area but need just one more to gives us a very strong forward line up

When our first choice 4 are available, they are probably as good as any Premier League team. Problem is the lack of back up. If when Sturridge was out we had lost Suarez too, who would have played upfront? Sterling has been fantastic over the last 10/12 games, while Sturridge was out. Upfront is not strong due to lack of back-up.

Liverpool - Sterling, Sturridge, Couthino, Suarez
Man City - Ageuro, Dzeko, Negredo, Jovetic, Silva, Nasri, Navas, Fernadhino,
Chelsea - Etoo, Torres, Ba, Lampard, Oscar, Willian, Salah, Schurlle, Hazard.

That is why I think we are week in attacking areas, not so much the first choice, but the back up for them.

Yes compared the others their strength in depth is scarey - big money wages keep them all happy

I think if Yonoplanka arrives and Ibe matures them it make not look as exciting but they will produce the goods

Before we even think about depth we still need to fill gaps in the starting 11

Would you agree that Spurs are a big club, Everton, Chelsea (maybe), Man United, City and Newcastle (controversial).

Spurs last won the league (and only time) in 1961.

Everton havent won the league for 24 years, or a trophy for 19 years.

Chelsea (before the money) hadn't won the league since 1955.

Newcastle (apart from the Fairs cup) havent won a trophy since Wor jackie.

Man U (biggest/bestest club ever) went 26 years without winning the league.

City (before the money) hadn't won the league in 40 odd years.

Hardly in unusual company are we?

Pinseeker - who do you actually support, as it really isn't obvious? Or do you just buzz off giving stick to the (un)flavour of the month? Better to support someone than just be the critic of everyone else, I find.

Expecting the "Ooh, aren't you Liverpool fans touchy response"............
Chelsea fan.
Sorry to disappoint but no other response

Problem with starting to improve the starting 11 is the price it will cost. What do you reckon we need to improve the starting 11, LB, CB, CM? So to be better than what we already have it will cost what? LB £15M, CB £20M, CM £25M. That is the sort of money you would need to spend IMO to improve those positions.

Or spend £50M in the summer getting some kind of depth in the squad by signing 4 players. Get a squad that can play both Premier League and Champions League. Then re-evaluate next january depending how well things are going and maybe spend more, if we are still going strong.

I think this is a long term plan that Rogers has, that is why he is playing this season down a bit as I do not think he would be in this position this year.

Good, at least I know your angle now, wasn't very obvious before. Aren't you from Barnsley, though?

No response? Surely you'd like to advance your argument a bit more, now the "big club" facts are known. Although Spurs have doubled the amount of title wins since (now 2).:smirk:

I'm still amazed and disgusted that we got rid of Rafa and employed the owl faced dud

Really?
He was too defensive which cost us the title with him. When we were leading the league at the end of January he should have pushed the team for more wins not sit back and hope 1-0 would be enough only for us to get caught late time and time again.
Personally I didn't want Raf from the start, he may have won us a CL but I always saw him as a great cup manager and not a good league manager. I feel with his record while LFC manager I was proved right.

ye reds starting to believe yet ??
Still hoping rather than believing, but happy to get Champs lge (more or less guaranteed now, as long as td don't win it) and to watch one of the best attacking teams of the premiership era(going on this season alone). It's an absolute pleasure to go the match at the moment, just sad I stopped doing the aways last season.:(

I keep saying no too, I just cant see it happening for us....BUT, lets have a chat after the Chelsea and City games.....then maybe just maybe. Make us dream Brendan, make us dream.

I don't see why Liverpool can't win the league. If they can keep key players fit. They look as good as any one & playing with confidence.

Lucas back is a big plus, hopefully a couple more of the injuries return to bolster the squad. City & Chelski games are the crunch matches, 2 wins and maybe, 1 loss and I doubt it. Lets also not forget the top sides still have to play each other & and a Manchester derby, yes that might be City as favourites but I fancy MU to up it a bit

one can only hope and dream YNWA

There are nine games left so with nine wins from nine we have a good chance of winning the league. There are nine tricky games to come and the team has to be up for all nine as if they were playing the last game of the season to win the title.
I believe we have the team who has the ability to do it I just have to hope they can avoid all the tiny trip hazards along the way.
