You're playing a 4 BBB knock out match off the white tees and a quick 2 ball comes up behind you.
As you are playing an official competition, do you have priority and the 2 ball will have to wait or does normal etiquette apply ie. let faster groups through.

What are the rules at your course?

It is always assumed at my course that the competition group has priority but I will always play a quicker group through irrespective. I am, however, a rarity in doing that.

Don't have any rules as such at our place but surely common sense should prevail? The two ball will obviously be playing quicker so the match should let them through I'd say. Don't think the type of game being played should affect normal etiquette.

Bob,
I have always hated with a passion the 'we're playing a match so we get priority' rule or attitude.
Why should that be? Why would you get priority over a member who's paid an equal amount to be part of the club but is just playing a friendly or social game.
Never understood it and never will.
I've occasionally played against people with that attitude in knockouts and always cringe with embarrassment when they stride arrogantly up to the group ahead and effectively say, 'step aside, we're playing a match so we're more important than you.'

Not sure that we have any set rules that cover this, personally I would let them through at the first opportunity, much prefer that rather than be aware of them waiting behind us.

We played at Kirkby Lonsdale on Sunday and wanted to get round quick with flights to catch later at Manchester, we caught a 3 ball up on the 14th who were playing the monthly medal. They stood aside and let us through as soon as we got on the 16th tee! I know plenty who wouldn't consider letting another group through that close to the end of the round!

Apologies if I've spoilt your luch Jezz :(

The boys playing the tie have priority but common sense usually prevails. I say usually as there are people who won't let people through no matter what. That includes not letting ties through when they are quicker AND have priority.

That said, we were playing our two ball tie last week and got through about 5 groups in 6 holes. Played the 14 holes in about two hours 15 on a quite busy course.

Sorry to go off on one! Don't have many pet hates in golf, but that's one of them (along with members' changing rooms and car parks...)

I remember :(

Maybe a "Room 101" is overdue :D :D :D

Could be an interesting insert in the magazine, every month someone puts forward something that they feel should end up in a golfing 'Room 101' and follow it up with a forum poll to see if it goes in. Could lead to some interesting rants.

I dont think our club has 'rules' for this or I am yet to find out. I cant see why it would make much difference either way tbh. If you're faster you're faster and you should go through at an appropriate setting regardless of how important you think you are.

No one has ever mentioned it being a rule that players in a match have priority & I never treat it thet way. But, I know some of the oldies believe it should be that way.

I don't actually have a clue what the rules at our place would be on such an occasion but I'd let them through regardless.

What's the point of holding someone else up unnecessarily simply because you can? And, would you really want the additional pressure of have a group right up your ar$e during the competition anyway?

I would always let a 2 ball through, although with a two tee start a 2 ball shouldn't normally be on the same side of the course at the same time as the 4 ball

Exactly the same as at mine.
