Who has priority on the course?

I think the rule at our club is the match has priority but I'd probably prefer the two ball to go through to save worrying about them all the time. Let them shoot round and let me and my partner concentrate of winning

I think our course has the competition has priority rule, and there are some who would insist on it.

played a 2-ball matchplay at my opponents place last week and a single came storming through the course so we offered to let him through. he didn't but at least we tried.

as well as competitions what is it with societies? they have a block of tee-times, thereafter normal etiquette should apply - when was the last time a society group gave way to you?

At our club we have that rule that any official club matches have priority.
Before you tee off you will be advised that there is a comp on (whether it's singles/4BBB etc) so when you come to tee off you know where you stand.
Your normally advised then to walk out to the 4th and jump infront.

It's normally well advertised as we have a 2 week notice board outside the pro shop that's always up to date with any matches at all.
So bearing in mind we don't have tee times it's up to you as the player to look ahead and see when any comps are on and to avoid them times if possible. It works well if I'm honest.

The only ones that seem to annoy me is how we have an 'unofficial' ladies day which we honour yet they seem to organise singles comps on days other than their ladies day. Like this Monday just gone!!
They have complete equal rights at our club now but we still honour their ladies day and they have the cheek to organise matches on other days and not tell anyone at the club, rock up and expect us to step aside. I'm starting to rant.......

It is always assumed at my course that the competition group has priority but I will always play a quicker group through irrespective. I am, however, a rarity in doing that.

Same as, i just think its common decency to let a group play through.

We got caught behind a Match a few weeks ago.
Pain in the backside.
We're all still playing Golf and the Ettiquette says you should let faster groups through.
If it was an Inter-Club match then I'd probably be ok with it as I wouldn't expect to get let through. But an internal KO match - that's different. It's still Golf.
Let faster groups through.

At our club common sense usually previals, if there is a gap a match can go into it does, if a two ball is ahead of a twoball match it lets it through, same for fourballs.

Unless asked, there is no sense in letting a 4ball through to sit behind another group who is right behind anothe group etc etc.

Matches should take priotiy if the match wishes.

It is hard to write down common sense, if it was easy someone would have done already and everyone would have a copy!

It's a good question and i basically agree with all that's been said

But on a point of principle, just a for having an argument's sake (;) - what does "having priority" actually mean ......

To me it does not mean you can play as slowly as you want and you dont have to let anyone through !!! What it could mean, is that if the match comes to a tee where the group in front is still waiting to tee off, then the match can request to play through. IN reality it never happens.

It;s like that stupid old so-called "rule" than Singles have "no priority" on the course, which all the old bu**ers took to mean you didnt have to let a 1 ball through irrespective of how slow you were playing.

Come on, this subject ought to be much more argumentitative than it is ;)
