Like the title said Who goes World No.1?

As it says Lee Westwood needs a win to go back to No.1 and he is currently Leading.
And Luke Donald needs a win to go to No.1 and currently he is leading iswell.

So Who goes World No.1 if Westwood and Donald Both win? Who takes the top spot??

Waaaaay more ranking points available in the States than Indonesia. Look at the number of Top 100 players in Lee's comp compared to Luke's.....

If Lee wins and Luke doesn't then Lee goes top.
If neither win then Kaymer stays. If Luke wins he goes top regardless of what Lee does.
 
Westwoods just mugging the locals, he is head and shoulders better than the rest of the field. Anyone of note is behind Luke at the Heritage. Westwood never deserved No1, and if he regains it by beating the Asian tour players he still will not deserve it.

Me too. I think Lee Westwood deserved to go to No1. As did Martin Kaymer and if he does it, so will Luke Donald. To get there, they have had to play consistently well over a two year period. At the end of they day, if Lee Westwood, who was the most consistently good player over the period where Tiger wasn't playing etc, didn't deserve it, then who did?
 
Anyone with the points deserved to by top, as the saying goes the table doesn't lie. Just because you havent won anything it's doesnt matter, Everyone knows how many points each competion is worth before a season starts.

Why, because unlike all the other number 1 players he hasn't got the bottle to win a major, get back to me when he has won 3,4,5,or 6 instead of making a career out of coming second. I'm not beating him up, he isn't good enough to hold the title in my opinion.

Total pish. The ranking doesn't take into account the majors you win. It is a reflection of consistency and there is little doubt over the last few years including the majors Westwood has been very consistent. How many majors has Donald won? Will be eqaully devalued if he gets to top spot on Sunday? As for mugging locals, it doesn't matter where you play you can only beat what is in front of you on the day. Don't perform and you won't

Yep consistantly 2nd,3rd,4th etc. I want my worlds no1 to win the best trophies available not a local medal in indonesia.

But winning a major doesn't make anyone the best player in the world for anything other than the last 9 of the last day of the tournament.

Just because there's noone out there that can consistantly outplay Westwood as you would like, isn't his fault. If you don't like the idea of Westwood being no 1 maybe you should have a go at Kaymer for being so crap at the Masters.

I know Luke gets juat over a million if he takes it down, I wanna know how winning in indonesia compares with, say, 10th in USA and maybe 5th on the European tour.
 
Gentlemen Please....

The OP has now turned into an argument on the status and qualifications necessary (or not) for the No1 spot. What you've all missed is that the World Ranking system is seriously flawed in the way points are accumulated and de-rated over time. Now that the game is a global game and players play all over the world, it's time for a re-vamp of this antiquated system that still reflects it's mid 80's starting point.
 
I agree entirely which is why Westwood, Donald& Kaymer have the opportunity to become worlds no1. If you do not beat your peers on a regular basis then for me coming top 10 often enough isn't good enough to be classed as best in the world. Tiger is worlds no1.

So if Westwood had won a couple of majors 3 years ago, silly you would be happy even though only last 2 years count!
 
To be honest, WHO EVER goes world No.1, then i think of course they deserve to be there end of. its not like they dont get any decent results, coz who ever is No.1 does get decent results. So what if they get 2nd all the time, to me 2nd is a brilliant result. and its show that they always plays consistantly.
