Who doesn't practice?

I'm not a natural golfer as my handicap and swing for those that have seen it will testify. I have to practice regularly to keep whatever ability, tempo and rhythm ticking over. I've always had a begrudging admiration for those blighters that rock up once in a while, grab their clubs and then knock it round close to their handicap. Damn their hides to Hades

Played today for the first time in 8 weeks. 37pts off 6 - no practice, and very rarely practice... maybe twice a year, apart from putting practice before each round.

I tend to practice round the green chipping and putting from less than six foot. I find holing a lot of puts from short range gives me confidence and allows a more positive stroke from longer range.

I never practice if I'm playing well. I'll work on my short game but only go to the range if I'm really struggling. My problem is I'm a tinkerer and I know I don't have the discipline not to "try something".

Never practice. Ever. Don't even step onto the practice putting green before a round, even if I've never clapped eyes on the course before.
The only thing I try to do is put my ball closer to the pin on the 1st hole than my playing partners so that I can get a "read" from their first putts or chips.
That doesn't always work.

I don't practice formally at all . No local range and our course hasn't got one either. If i have any spare time i try and play on course which in a roll up could be construed as practice as I tend to experiment a little more.

Lots of posters saying they don't practice. Does no one have a desire to improve?

Of course but if you had one " golf window" a week what would you do ??? My preference is to play on the course and try to make each shot count. I'd love to be a SFG but that comes with hard yakka and time which is a very valuable currency in my household unfortunately.

Hardly ever go to a range etc. Sometimes have an hour on the putting green after work in summer but that's about it. I don't even warm up except for a couple of swishes on the first tee and maybe a few putts on the practice green. In fact I hate having to wait (say) half an hour to tee off as I end up aimlessly messing about and just wishing I could get out there.

I went from going to the range 3 times a week to zero after the birth of my first child in july. My handicap has somehow come down by 3???????

God knows how

With limited time for competitive golf, I have to practice. Quite often I will only have a spare hour, so practice is often the only golf i can get in. I probably hit 3-400 balls a week at the range or short game area and try to get a good 45 mins on the putting green a week. If only there was a way to bundle together the odd hours i get to use them all at once to play 18 holes!!

I quite like going to the range and swatting balls in to the distance. When the days are longer(and warmer) i'll hit the short game area too.

Never practiced really.

Intend to change that this year on my short game especially, even venturing into the world of golf lessons on my wedges......

Interesting to see if it makes any difference!

I don't like the range so will only go if I have made a swing change and want to settle it in, I do practice chipping but not regularly. I do however play a lot, even in winter so I get my practice on the course.

I class 9 holes on my own as practice!

I don't like the range but I like to practice on the course or short game practice area at the course!

If I'm not playing in a comp, I class all other golf as practice .......

Exactly the same for me.
Rather play 9 holes than hit the range.

Used to practise loads to grove new swing parts. Not any more. When i go to the range, its just because i like getting out of the house and hitting balls or just trying new gear.

I love practice as much as playing. When I don't practice well I don't play well.

If I don't practice well or not at all I can barely break 100.

With regular fundamental and short game practice my swing comes back and I magically score much better.

Agree with this, I really enjoy a trip to the range and almost see it as a pastime/hobby in its own right!
