We often talk about how far we hit it and how wonderful we are at wedges and iron play but i dont recall anyone ever discussing how many birdies they have had in a round although i am sure it will have been discussed.
Should add that round when i had the birdies and eagle i had a few bogeys and only a couple of pars very up and down usually the way when you have that many birides.
4 or 5 would be in my better rounds (usually a double or worse to bring me back down)
Best ever was 6 birdies in a 9 hole competition, 28 points, result!
8. I was very hungover and had a year long bet with my mates that I would be off 5 at the end of the year, and it all came down to the last round. had to shoot +1 I think.
Had just drifted out to 6 last few rounds.
Started Dbl, birdie, birdie, birdie, Dbl, Birdie, Birdie, Birdie, Bogey, Bogey, Birdie, Birdie, Par in.
Was playing with two of the five people I had the bet with and at between 20 - 40 quid a pop was grately recieved! They were a bit gobsmacked. More so due the the awful record I have when hungover.
I left a 20ft birdie putt 1/2 an inch short on the 13th. Think if I had got that the interesting run would have continued.
Quite a few stiff iron shots but the highlight was either the 8th (short par 3) when I just came up short 5 yrds off the green at which point one of my playing partners said 'ha, that'll be the end of that then' at which point i proceed to chip in or the 45 foot putt on the 12th to keep a par off the card so far!
It might sound odd, but I am not a fan of birdies. I like pars, and ideally 18 of them. I find all too often my birdies are followed by doubles. A solid round of pars is more satisfying for me, and a sign I am playing well.
..... but I would mention in passing that I find 8 single putts per round on the last 3 rounds (at different courses) far more satisfying than an excess of birdies and eagles in one round. Heck, anyone can get lucky now and again.
I think 5 was my highest in one round. But to be honest Ive never broken par, not even had a chance stepping onto the last. My best is 72 and in the last 6-8 months I've been shooting mid 70's regularly.
Im a steady as you go kind of player, only recently started 'taking on' birdie putts rather than lag it up close enough to tap in (thats a confidence thing im sure). Right now I'd love 18 straight pars, i'd be very happy...
