Ah, you've sussed me out, Dodger!

No worries, gents. Still alive and kicking but nearest I've been to golf lately is watching it on the telly and caddying!

Not been on here much of late. After coming back down from Castle Stuart I packed in my job the following week. It was doing my head in after being in such good and amiable company for that wee holiday. So I'm studying hard for my taxi brief at the moment with view to sitting my exam in July. Nose to the grindstone and no distractions.

Have earned a few sheckles caddying meantime. Ended up caddying at the US Kids European Championships for 4 days at Craigielaw. That was eventful and interesting to say the least. 500 kids between 8 and 18 years old. I was with a wee 11 year old and I've never wanted to grab a 5 wood out of someone's hand and replace it with a 9 iron so much in my life.....or replace a lob wedge with a putter for that matter! These kids have some short game though..... but boy they're serious. Not much fun to be around.

Also did a day caddying in the Challenge Tour pro-am at Spey Valley! It didnae rain! Great to actually walk the course for once and tremendous to spend it in the company of a challenge tour pro for a day. Amazing golfer. I think he was around par or a wee bit under. Having walked the course for the first time I'd definitely ditch the buggy if I play there again and just trolley it, though.

Betting?....well....I had a tenner on Karlsson for top ten at the US Open but when that wasn't looking like panning out I had a wee gander at the odds for the others after the third round. Discounting the leader and Woods the bookies were throwing money away. I had bets on McDowall at 11/2 to win, Els at 16/1 to win, Mickelson at 14/1 to win and Havret at 66/1 each way (22/1 for 2nd place). So that worked out well and I ended up about £70 better off including my Karlsson loss. Am in a quandry for the Open though. Will have a few top tens no doubt.

Golf, the World Cup and Wimbledon all on at the same time. I picked a hell of a time to be staying at home studying! Cheers for thinking about me though, Brendy. Normal service will be resumed shortly no doubt.

All the best

It doesn't pay as well as being a taxi driver. Modern equivalent of highway men.

Not if you speak to an Edinburgh cabbie. You get the sob story about not being that busy, cost of upkeep of the cab, cost of petrol etc.

Writing the sob story is the first part of the exam.

I take it that part 1 is ' I have to detour all round the tram works. that costs me more in fuel and I can't charge it.'

Dodger, I was caddying for one of the amateurs. The pro had his own caddy...and very good he was too. Thorough is not the word.

Well, when I say I was caddying....I introduced myself to my man on the first tee and he pointed to his bag....on top of his electric trolley. Result!

I suppose you could say I was a driver for a set of clubs for the day. Good laugh though.

And Stu, it's coming up for 9 years since I got out of law. September 01' was the fateful month. No desire to return to it whatsoever. Hate office work.
