When does change to handicap apply?

Hi.
A player shoots a good score in the monthly medal on a Saturday and its clear that this score will result in a change to the playing handicap. The competition is not closed until Sunday night but the player is playing match play on the Sunday afternoon. Should this player notify his opponents that he shot a good score the previous day and expects his handicap to change? What the competition was closed later on the Sunday this player lost a shot. Did he play off the correct handicap?

Only if it is downward and against sss (in this instance) you cannot adjust upwards (as far as I am aware)

Cut to 6.1 then, 2 shots less than CSS should mean a 0.4 cut

As CSS wasn't known at that stage, player should use SSS to determine whether a cut is due. If SSS for the tees used is 73 or more then, unless the 2nd comp was related, (eg 2 Round Club Champs) I believe he should have played off 6 on the Sunday. If 72 or less, then playing off 7 would be correct.

Overall Par and handicap calculations are not related.

Since the CONGU guidelines for self reduction were not followed,

20.11 If a player returns a Qualifying Score or Scores below his Playing Handicap at hisHomeClub or away
and is unable to:
(a) report an away score(s) to his HomeClub or
(b) ascertainwhether or not his PlayingHandicap has been reduced as a result of the score(s)
he must, before playing in another competition at his Home Club or away, for that competition
make such reduction to his Playing Handicap as shall be appropriate under the UHS by applying
the Competition Scratch Score if known, otherwise the Standard Scratch Score, to calculate his Nett
Differential and handicap reduction.
Should a player not know his Exact Handicap, such reduction should be made from his Playing
Handicap less 0.5,(e.g.If PlayingHandicap is 6 then reduction should be from 5.5).
Note: Handicap reductions only shall be applied under this sub-clause. Handicap increases may only be made by a player’s Home Club after scores have been duly reported and published in accordance with Clause 20.9.

Then the player was in breach of Rule 6-2, which is a DQ for the player playing of a higher handicap than actual should be.

However, if the match was played and the result posted, I'm not exactly sure what course of action should be taken.

Par is irrelevant. Reduction is to be self-assessed against SSS in this case as CSS was not yet calculated.

It's not a case of declaring his score, it's playing off a wrong handicap on Sunday

If the player did this knowingly, or the opponents made a valid claim, then he is DQ. If it was an honest mistake and no claim was made until after the result was posted, then the result stands as played.

And if SSS was 72 it wasn't even a wrong handicap.
