I think the 1st at Macrihannish has to be my favourite. With the tide well up and a wind blown sea pushing up the beach it has to be the best opening shot in golf.

So many to choose from and a lot are from really small courses that many will never have played or heard of. I use to like the 14th at Wimbledon Common, uphill drive over a valley and a second into a narrow bottle neck with a bank guarding the left of the green. I though the 1st at Lydd was a pretty little hole. Just too many

I have sat and thought about this for a while and even eliminating some cracking holes that I played in a cracking fashion, I am still left with a bunch of holes that I find it hard to choose from, so I can't have a 'single' favorite hole. :D

Difficult to reduce the holes played to a few favourites but i will try.

Par 3----4th Old Course Vilamoura, its just a lovely hole, tee shot over a lake which has a large cork tree in the middle

Par 4----11th my own course Roganstown, stream and lake front and left of green and on occassions a lay up with your second is the best option.

Par 5----11th Valderrama, great uphill par 5 with a superb view from the tee.

On my course (Barton-on-Sea) it has to be the 9th hole on Needles, 130 yard par 3 right in front of the clubhouse to an island green. You can stand on the elevated tee and think "this looks easy" but guess again with the sea breeze blowing and people looking on, many a ball has been last seen splashing into the surounding water.

1st at Portstewart
14th at Royal Portrush
Any hole at Royal Dornoch - If had to choose it would be the 11th, Depending on the wind and pin position 2nd shot could be a 3 iron or 9 iron. Great hole

The 3rd at Montrose. Short but very intimidating hole.Deep gully to carry, narrow green that slopes back to front.Rough to the right,4th tee to the left but a slope to the left of that. Can ruin a card so early in a round.

Sorry for coming in late here, but although the 3rd is a cracking wee hole, the 16th could hold it's own on any course in the world. It's truly one of the best short holes on the planet. It plays about 230yds and even if you're on the green you're a potential 4 putt from anywhere on it.

That's right. 4putt.
