I've said before that I don't measure my drives but when I was playing on Saturday I hit a few really good ones and thanks to this thread I thought I'd keep and track of how far they were going.
On the 4th, 441 yd par 4 I had 167 left to the pin which was about 5 or 6 yards short of centre so that went 268 give or take a couple of yards. That was pretty average for most of the round and I would say is pretty average for me generally this time of year.
However, on the 15th, a 392 yard par 4, I managed to get a really good swing on it and had 80 yards left to the pin which was again short of centre, maybe 8 yards so that one went about 304 yards give or take. That one was probably about as good as I get and is probably about as good as I have ever hit a drive.
All the yardages were measure with my laser which I know to be accurate so my best drive on a flat, firm fairway, in warm conditions with very little wind is just over 300 yards. I'm not a short hitter but I reckon that's as good as it gets for me, what you fellas are doing to hit it 50 to 70 yards past me I don't know
Drove all the way back from Landeck in Austria to Edinburgh via the chunnel a few years back on the way back from a kayaking trip... mind you, there were four of us rotating driving so we did it all in one go.
Pinged it 315y on our 18th which left me about 2 yards of fairway before hitting the beck. Then humped the remaining 230y uphill with the 18deg just left of the greenside bunker and totally duffed the pitch and two-putted for a closing par.
I can honestly say that what I thought I'd hit and now knowing it (thanks to the Sonocaddie) has made a big difference and it really helps to know what an average and good hit is.
