whats your best drive ever

Hit a great 280yd drive on the first Par 5 of the New Course, then creamed a 3i to leave a simple bump and run and 3 ft putt for birdie. A drive is only good if you make something of it IMO.
Second was a great drive onto the fringe pin high of the 9th green at Pitreavie. Just missed the Eagle but got the birdie!

Ive played the course many times ,hole 8 337yrds (Mansfield gc) dog leg right slightly down hill middle of summer wind blowing down fairway

i thought to myself if i hit this sweet it could go on green ,,,,teed up ,did the routine & hit the ball so sweet after follow throw i shouted 4

walked to the green 3 golfers still on green last one finishing putt there was a ball 4ft from flag on green they walked of the green leaving the ball behind

oh yes it was mine ,,regret to say made 2 putts giving me a birdy ,that was my best drive :D

I'm more interested in the feeling you get from all the practice you do ,to making the shoot that makes you feel on top off the world

mine was my 3 wood on the 18th today, 235 yds inbetween 2 fairway bunkers, enable me to smash a 3hybrid just short of the green, a chip and 2 putts = 1st time I think I have parred the hole :)

failing that the 1st at Beau desert meet as I cleared the crap, wasnt long but got me out of jail on the most nervous shot of my life :D

Playing in the old Evening News Comp at the Braids in Edinburgh about 12 years ago.

Wasn't playing regularly but making up the numbers. Photographers and about 100 people stood round the tee watching.

Was so nervous I could hardly hold the club but managed, somehow, to spank a 4i straight down the middle of the fairway.

Mine was on the 18th when I knew I had a chance of breaking 100, I regularly sliced this hole for some reason but this time it went straight and landed 150 yards from the green, letting me get on the green in two, two putts and 98 scored. Not the furthest, but the most satisfying walking down the fairway knowing the 100 was still on.

My best wasn't my longest;). On 17th at St Andrews on the back tees, nervous as hell as I was four over par. Hit an absolute pearler to be on the right side of the fairway a 'good' distance up. Boshed an iron but landed in the road hole bunker. Probably the only time I was very pleased to be in a bunker!! Finished with a 78 :)

Did you get over the crest?

For me, any drive I can find on the 18 th at wh, off the blocks.

17th at Glasgow Gailes, glorious sunny day, no wind, ball was front edge of the green, next day drove the 18th at Old Prestwick, but that's off an elevated tee so not that long really, still put the wind up my brother who was putting out at the time

oh and re: Beggsy.....having had a round with him I'm only surprised that was with the driver - he knocked a 5 iron over 250 and well past my screamer of a 5 wood

As per Homer ,, i pinged a beauty off the 1st in the FoA final ,long & straight down the middle , other players , Mike H , JezzE & the GM photographer all lined up watching , got a " great drive Bill" off the boss man after i hit too ... set good tempo for the day then

Standing on the 1st at any forum meet and not knobbing it

got to agree with this 100%, at blackmoor last year there's an awkward ditch that runs right across the fairway which is about 230 yards carry off the back tees (if memory serves me right) a few of the big hitting signel figure players from here either layed up to enjoy the approach shot, or in snellys/swingers case monster'd one right up almost level with the green, and most of the shorter guys hit easy drives just up short. in both rounds will a full audience i had the pleasure of launching 2 beauts, down the right side, with a light draw back to the middle of the short stuff, im just glad they couldnt see my approach shot from the clubhouse balcony.

I think i had more adrenalin on both them drives than a full year of motocross racing..

My'n was my 3 wood off the whites at Purbeck on the 5th hole (one of the best golf holes) onto the fairway to enable a birdie! Couldn't believe I managed a birdie on my favourite hole of all time. So thats why it's my best drive. it's a very difficult tee shot hitting this fairway.
This is what golf is all about.

I hit a great 4 Iron to lay up and it hit the downslope and shot forward. It rolled over the foot bridge to safety

I hit a good one at Hankley Common last year in their invitation day. The longest drive competition was on their 18th hole and we were in the last group.

I went for a big hit and fortunately middled it. it must have had a good bounce down the hill as when we go there, I was 100 yards past the previous leading drive and I won the prize. Not sure how long it was but it is 432 yards off the white tee and I was about 5 yards short of the ditch in front of the green.

I was playing with last year's mens and ladies captains of Hankley and they said they had never seen a ball even close to this in all the years they had been there. As I said, must have had an incredibly long and lucky first bounce.

The best drive I have ever hit though was at Tandridge. I was having an absolutely shocking round there about 3 years ago and by the time I got to the 16th tee I was thoroughly down-hearted. This is a typical Harry Colt par 4 that is 279 yards off the yellows, uphill and the green is obscured by a clutch of trees on the right at the top of the hill.

On the day, our society had a prize for nearest the pin in two on the hole so I thought I would have a crack at the green with the hardest fade I could hit. I hit the shot as intended and it curved over the end tree on the right at the top of the hill and went towards the green. I shouted fore as there was a 4 ball of ladies in front of us. When I got to the green, the ladies were still there and my ball was 2 feet from the pin.

I went to apologise as I thought they had stuck around to give me a telling off but no, they wanted to see if I would miss the putt or not!
