What's the one thing that makes the round worthwhile?

A birdie

Any birdie, anywhere, anyhow.

Today -Par 5, good drive, hooked 4 wood into rough, pitch out to 8 feet, sink it.
That's what does it for me..

The good shots make it worthwhile.

If not that then a good species count. I always do one for birds and mammals. Strange I know but it's a habit! I make a mental note of any interesting plants too!

Fascinating bloke I am .....

Just being out on the course is still such a great feeling for me. (Except during a Blackmoor sleet storm!)
If I can get the ball from tee to cup in the way I planned then it's a bonus! My game is too erratic at the moment so this bonus is very rare.

Playing well is obviously a great feeling, especially in a comp, but having a good laugh when not playing well is just as good for me.

Played a friendly game of 4bbb matchplay at the weekend and played like a complete plonker for most of the the round. We were dormie 3 on the 16th tee and proceeded to somehow win the next 2 holes for an exciting climax. Our opponents both found the green on the par 3 18th before my playing partner topped his tee shot about 10 yards. I then hit a massive push right which was heading for the trees. Thinking that was game over, my ball hit a tree trunk and somehow cannoned onto the green to about 4 ft. Sunk the putt to win the hole and tie the match. I probably wouldn't have even broken 100 had I scored the round but the banter was the real highlight and put a smile on my face for the rest of the day. :)

In 2012 its just being out there. I am too up and down form wise to worry about what I'll shoot. Play the game, enjoy the company and hopefully come back with the ball you started with. If not, try your best to shoot what you can and if you hit a few good un's then so much the better. There is always the next round to look forward to

It is seeing improvement for me. Ok the scoring is still inconsistent but playing with people I have not played with in a while who comment how things have improved gives me great joy.
I also love the been out in the fresh air. I am a country boy and love the fresh air, working in an airport I am inside most of the day, a lot of that time is spent behind the desk. So getting home on a spring/summer/autumn evening and getting over to the course and that sea breeze does it for me.
Hooked on the sensations you get from golf.

Obviously the most obvious one is making Birdies, more than 1 is a great feeling. Back to back birdies is an even better feeling.

In 2011, my greatest feeling would be either hitting my driver well that I was finding fairways or hitting decent approach shots within dustbin lids (when ever this happens I imagine what reaction I'd get if I was live on Sky Sports lol).

Well I've got to ask this to everyone who's mentioned it.... What IS a birdie?

And to JustOne....... WINNING.... I didn't realise Charlie Sheen was on the forum :mmm:

And to Andy... about the barmaids... Me and some brothers went away for the weekend to Woll, in Scotland. And there was an absolutly stunning barmaid who only had eye's for me. I'm sure she did, cos on the last evening she came up all sweet smiles and everything ignored everyone and asked me if she could get me anything, even though I was just lifing my freshly pulled pint to my lips. When I asked if we were on the usual table, then walked off without another word, she took the huff and never came out again while we were there. It's a shame I've got a Lady.

And my Drives... I LOVE my drives.... errm no I don't they always slice, but occasionally I can drive well... until i get to the golf course and get out of the car :p

What made it for me, and its a shame I was on my own for a practice round on a local course.
Hole 7, T'd off, and landed <2 yards from PIN, 6 iron, par3.
Hole 9, 8-10 yards from a 2 tier green and a further 12yards to the pin.. 7 Iron chip, rolll YESS!!!!! :one: in she went....
then Hole 10, Dog leg fairway round a pond. Nobody tries to T over the water, unless they've got old balls to waste just to try it. I had an old ball with a split. So on the T it went, and over the water to land just in the rough only 20 yards from the PIN. Tried 6 balls last time I was out and never managed it

Just one thing I really hate, One of my brothers has turned into a sweary mary over the last couple of years. If he could just curb it, or keep it under his breath on the course, and not blame the clubs when he stuffs a T shot, when the last T shot went perfect.. Its not the clubs.. Its always you I was told recently.
