What's so good about Mizuno ?

I was once told that Mizzys come with a shorter shaft (as standard off the shelf) because they are made for the Japanese.

Anyone know of this?

I have heard of this and just compared the 67's to the Titleist ZMs and there is a quater of an inch diff in length. That said I am 6ft 0inch and I have always used standard L&L Mizzy's and I have not noticed any problems and I would imagine anyone taller would go for a custom fit anyway.

I'm 6ft 2 and have just been c/f for mp57's but the pro came to the conclusion I was standard everything , (loft lie and length) bit disappointed in a way cos i thought id at least need 1/2 inch longer clubs...but i'm hitting them pretty good so i guess he was right

I was up the range the other night and picked a couple of clubs out of the try me bag. Picked out the MP-67, at the time this didn't mean anything to apart from that they looked great. Hit some shots with and it felt good. All straight down the middle.

Asked in the shop about them, they told me they are for low handicappers, thats me out then!

Will definately try all off the Mizuno range when i get custom fitted.

Our clubs got a Mizzy demo day coming up. I am so tempted to go along and try some of the other clubs in their range. But I am a bit of a Mizzy fan though!

I think for the likes of me. The MP range are similar to the teenage lad having pics of a Ferrai or super model on the wall. Unobtainable!!

But the demo day is equivilent to a one night stand with the super model!

I'm 6'2" and I was C/F for my old MP30s and my current MP57s. Both were fitted at + 1/2 inch. Standard Lie each time though.

My first set of Clubs were Mizzy Comp CT's, I did try out a handful of clubs at the time, but felt these were best for me. I loved them so much, but after a couple of years and a few shots of the Handicap, I decided to look at some new irons, this brought me in touch with my beloved MX20's, just awesome, they are fantastic, as time and new technoligy's come and go nothing have had the same look in the Mizzy range, they look and feel great.

Now since the arrival of the MX200's, I am so tempted as they also look nice at address and feel great to strike the ball with, if only I had the funds, they would be in the bag.

I will admit to a mizzy fit, only last year, though I did not get on with any of the Drivers, but found I liked the 4 wood, which I hit the same distance as the MP500 Driver. MX200's were not on the market at the time, so they did try to push me towards the 950's which I felt did not perform as good as my MX20's.

My advise to you, try before you buy ;)

I wish they'd come up here and do a demo sometime soon :(

FFTD.

Thanks for the Japanese link. However, why is there so much Mizuno gear that looks great and not available here in the UK or not even featured on Mizuno Europes website. Oh and the Bettinardi putters!

I know that you probably can't answer that question, so it's just retorical!!?

Can I tell you something rather interesting I discussed on Monday with a master-fitter about Mizuno C/F.

His claim (not mine) is that when you make a Mizuno club half an inch longer, the lie should be altered to make it 1/2 a degree flatter.......to match the lie of the next club up (as it were), as the clubs step up and down 1/2 inch length.

So, when fitting (apparently) quite often the spec is 1/2 inch longer but NO change to lie. This means that "instead" of making each iron 1/2 a degree flat, they stay the same as the factory.

He double checked mine (took about an hour) and confirmed that mine were 1/2 an inch longer and still "factory lie" which needed tweaking, due to tolerances or second-rate adjusting when I picked them up a week ago.

Basically, he was saying that anyone buying Mizunos are probably just getting longer shafts, unless you buy them from a quality retailer/pro/factory order if the prescription is 1/2 inch longer 1/2-1.0 degree upright....

Could be some truth, or could be him justifying his fee :)

I think in terms of blades, no one comes close to them, both in feel and look. Never tried cavities.
Have to say I think they should stick to irons, as I find their woods very average.

Mizuno TP9s 15 years and as happy now as the day I bought them.

Others make a decent iron-titleist are good, ping very forgiving, tm and cobra pretty good, however I've never replicated the feel that I get from the mizuno iron.

T-Zoid (early cast model from 1996?) - shocking......
At last someone speaking a language I recognise...
T-Zoid clubs, Ping Eye and Ping Eye2 and even Ping Zing (remember those?)and TaylorMade did the Burner Bubble shaft which I hated. If I remember rightly Topflite brought out the z-balata ball closely followed by a Titleist balata ball that basically had a thin coat of sticky paint over a jam donut, one miss-hit and it could go out of shape.

The 90's... they were the days. :p

RGDave,

Whatever they've done, it suits me at the moment. If I'm at the range my clubs get the tell tale scuff marks off the mats in just the right sort of place on the sole.

Been to same fitter twic e for Mizuno clubs and have found it to be good fitting and informatiive each time.

Wished that I hadn't have read this thread! It's making me pine for my new sticks.

My Mizuno MX-200's, MX700 3iron utility, 3&5Woods should be with me by this time next week and I CANT FLIPPIN WAIT!

I have been using:-
Nike Sasquatch 11.5deg Driver
Ram 3&5 Wood
Taylor Made 4-PW TP Irons (Blades and must be lengthened as I am taking big chunks of turf!)
56deg Callaway X-Forged
60 MD Superspin wedge

I was playing really well with my last set and now I couldnt hit a cows bottom with a banjo! Well, a bit over the top, but i'm not playing well.

So, What's good about Mizuno? I suppose it's like asking How good is Angelina Jolie in bed? You'll never know until you've tried it! :o

It's true that no OEM company can touch Mizuno for forging quality, but that doesn't mean they're the best. We're a little bit component phobic in the UK, but in the US they recognice some companies that produce simply stunning irons.

If you're so inclined and have money to burn check out Muira or Scratch irons. To die for.

To the original post.

What is so good about mizuno?

Well, there sexy looking and come sweet off the face they are really nice clubs to hit am sure if you have never hit one then did you would turn into a mizuno whore.

However, I do not like the drivers or woods they just dont feel as nice as the taylormade or nike or callaway.

Yes they are aimed at low H/C's but if you hit them well as you say then why should you not buy them. Thats what I hate about going into a golf shop full of 'sales men' but thats for another thread.

Totally agree don't let someone tell you you can't do something, especially when you were doing it.

Absolutely! I couldn't agree more. Mine are longer with the factory lie too, and are spot on!

I just wonder if all those years ago when I got my first set and they made them 1/2 longer and 2 degrees up whether they'd actaully gone too far with the uprightness.
