Whats keeping you from a lower handicap?

Easy answer, ability and lack of dedication to get lower. I take what the course gives me. Golf is for enjoyment, if I improve then thats fine, if I stay as I am then I wont lose any sleep.

3 off them and this is where the mental game comes in. I hit buffer last time out and between the 3 holes i was 6 over, and only 6 over for the remaining 15 !

Just take the bogey lad. Lay up to 100. Pop it on. To putts. Birdie the next short par 4 or par 3. Sorted :thup:

For me pretty much its just a matter of playing more comps, I expect to come down and down over the next little while. If I had to pick one thing I would say chipping. I would like to think I can drop 3 strokes off my handicap and get to 9 by just playing a few more comps.

Well documented on here, but Incorrectly rated SSS at my course (2 below par)......it means I need to shoot 40 points off the silver tees (6750 yards) to guarantee a cut.......39 points might not be enough if CSS goes down 1.

It's basically rated as an easy course but is one of the hardest I've ever played......

Im going to say Putting. still hot and cold. need to sink more of the birdie chances i get.

a bit of distance would be nice, but i look at the example of the best player i know (not the lowest handicap by any means) he's off 2 is almost 70 and his handicap it at a club thats almost 6800 off the whites, lucky if he hits his driver 220, but short game is out of this world.

Few things really.

Consistency with a driver
Not accurate enough from <100 yards with a wedge
Short game

By far the biggest issue is round and on the greens. I suck. Badly. Chipping and putting are hideous compared to how I can hit the ball with my irons.

I'm going to rate the different aspects of my game out of 10 and then it will be clear whats holding me back.

Driving - 8/10
Fairways,Hybrids - 6/10
Long Irons - 6/10
Mid Irons - 7/10
Wedges - 9/10
Putting - 4/10

There you go :)

I would like to say 'Time' at the moment. I only get to play once, sometimes twice a week with little or no time to practice in between. Once I have the time, it may then be that I do not have the talent to improve further but I will never find out without the time to practice, take lessons and play more.

Alignment - strike the ball true and straight most times, i just struggle to aim at the target so when it comes to hitting towards a green is means i'm just off or in a bunker which leads me to my next problem...

20 yards from the green - cant chip for toffee. Go through a good patch every now and then, but in the main I have no confidence or consistency when around the green. Would rather take the ball 125y back and hit in a full PW.

Putting - particularly from distance, I managed to shoot a PB 74 on the 2nd day of our club champs without making a single birdie;

Short game - anything inside 100yards would definitly like to get up and down more often whether it's from the middle of the fairway having bombed a drive or from the rough or bunker having missed the green with my apporach;

Maintaining my concentration - I would love to get rid of those random shots that just creep in from nowhere, the occasional slice, shank or fat! They really are card wreckers and get ontop of me mid round.

I suppose it all comes down to practice and with winter golf arriving short-game practice should be top of my list of priorities, but will be tough to commit to.

Surely its unlikely for css to go down if the course is that difficult? I would have expected css to go up and even be reduction only if its plainly too low.

Anyway I hope they get it sorted, certainly looks a tough track from what I have seen of it.

Not being in a place in my life to facilitate a membership and regular golf.

The swing looks there, the short game is there and my bad shots a not too bad.

Popping down a local par 3 recently i was shooting around par and even once shot -1!

I just need to be in a good place with my career to give me the funds to play golf as much as I want to.
