• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

What would you ban next ?

Able-bodied people using Buggies in competitions. Golf can be knackering in the heat we've had this weekend, especially if you're playing consecutive days or multiple rounds in one day. Being able to use a buggy clearly offers a physical advantage which the majority of the field (at least in the UK) wont have.

I am afraid that you have drifted into 'use of technology' territory with this ... and like DMDs you will find little sympathy.

My simple answer to the 'unfairness use of a buggy gives in this weather' complaint is that if you can afford to play golf you can afford to hire a buggy for a couple of days. Besides you can have a caddy to carry you clubs or drive/push/pull your bag trolley to reduce physical exertion.

Sorry but I don't agree with that at all! I can afford to play golf but I can't justify the extra £20 a day for a buggy or even more than that for a caddy.

Agree entirely.

Furthermore, at our club there's probably only 5 buggies anyhow, so even if everyone could afford one - there's wouldn't be enough to go around. Pro's can't use them in competitions, and I don't think amateurs should be able to either; of course, just my opinion.

Same here we have a limited number of buggies as do most places so it'd never be a level playing field. I firmly believe if you need it for medical reasons that are backed up with certificate (my dads club do this) then fine to use, otherwise comps everyone should walk the course.

In many ways you are pushing at an open door with me on this sort of stuff. On golf technology and golf 'aids' I now know the way the devil thinks and so I was playing devil's advocate.

I'd ban intentional golf cheats - those that use the leather wedge, intentionally give the wrong score, always "find" their ball in the trees, abuse the handicap system by not handing in low cards before a competition - not calling penalties on themselves as no one saw them commit a foul...
I'm sure there are more methods to intentionally cheat and they should all be banned.

The problem is in 'outing' them ............... so very difficult.
I totally agree withn the sentiment though, and not just in golf.
Give them one second chance & then banned for life.
