What would you ban next ?

One ball's at the weekend..we had one in front and one behind today...What's the point ? I suggested to the lad looking fed up behind us to join up with the lad in front as we let him play through.he said he was only practicing so didn't want to..shouldn't' be allowed at weekends.held us up for two holes before he walked off.

I call BS on this!

Me too, last couple of rounds I've used yellow balls, although until the last couple of rounds I hadn't actually noticed how many buttercups we have growing on the course at the moment! I have a friend who is a Preston fan and will NOT use orange balls (Blackpool colours). :D

I noticed you used "a yellow Srixon" - so you never lost it then?

That would be tangerine, not Orange;)

How was single ball holding you up? unless he himself was also being held up, in which case the same would have happened to you had he not been there?

Not being able to stand behind the line of another player's putt before they've hit it.

I mean as soon as they've touched it you can move in, which just leads to a ridiculous scarper across the green to get a look.

Either allow it or disallow it completely.

How was single ball holding you up ?QUOTE]

I'll explain this simply.....we got on the tee and he was looking for his ball in the trees (, the green was clear,) so we had to wait....we got on the next tee the( green was clear) and he was dropping a ball after putting his first tee shot into the water.we had to wait for him again. Hope that clears things up.

To be fair theres people ive seen playing golf that if they were a one ball they could easily hold up a fourball behind!

Plausible but seems a bit harsh. Apart from 2 holes, was he keeping up with the group in front? Also, I'm assuming you were a 4 ball otherwise you would have invited him to join your group?

Long grass under trees. The penalty is being in the trees - no need to have long rough as we just spend ages looking for balls. No sympathy and grass can be as long as nature intends if trees are miles off course or if the player is being silly or greedy.

We were a 3 ball, he asked if he could play through so we obliged...he played the second hole and was last seen heading towards the car park.seeing as the course was packed and was playing slow I was suprised he was allowed out on his own.in fact there was another lad playing on his own in front of us.Should have been paired up . can't see how playing through every group on your own would be enjoyable.not for me thanks

Smoking on the course - especially in weather like we are having (down south) at the moment.

Ahh yes! I hate walking onto a green or tee box and seeing fag butts lying around everywhere drives me to distraction.... not to often thankfully nowadays I may add but it looks horrific and for some reason people who do it think its OK as they are bio degradable......

Correct - somehow fag ends aren't litter

And they are all over the course. I pick up any litter I find as I walk round and stick it in bin on next tee - but I can't pick up fag ends.

btw - imo - the 'they're biodegradable' exceuse is something the offenders roll out when pulled up on it - actually their chucking of fag ends on the ground is simply out of habit and lazy.

And probably by the same people using caddies to line themselves up, using yellow balls, wearing black socks, taking divots, making pitch marks, playing v slowly and spitting....:) which the last two are more Keegan Braddley traits (or were)..... I'm actually not liking this freaky chap at all!

Nothing wrong with demanding that players do not drop litter - and fag ends are litter. Besides - the more crucial point is that when the weather is hot anad the grass is dry - there should really be an outright smoking ban on the course due to the risk of fire. But I know that this is unfair on smokers - so I would demand that fag ends are not chucked on the ground.

The distance a ball can travel I the pro game to eliminate the need to make courses nearly 8000 yards

I'm not entirely sure I see the need to bring the ball back in distance.
My main argument revolves around the US Open results from the last few years.
The 'shorter' courses have typically seen scores close to or above level par win - Merion +1 (measured 6996 from the whites but played around 6300 on day 1), Pebble Beach +1 (wonderful win by G-Mac and Pebble Beach measures 7040).

The big winning victory by Rory McIlroy of 16 under (12 shot lead) was at congrssional measuring 7574.

so length does not dictate difficulty.
Grow the rough, choose pin positions wisely, have slick greens and cut the run off areas low so the ball doesn't stick to the green if you aren't hitting your targets - we would not see record breaking scores every week and wouldn't need to keep creating 650 yard par 5 holes.

I'd ban intentional golf cheats - those that use the leather wedge, intentionally give the wrong score, always "find" their ball in the trees, abuse the handicap system by not handing in low cards before a competition - not calling penalties on themselves as no one saw them commit a foul...

I'm sure there are more methods to intentionally cheat and they should all be banned.

Able-bodied people using Buggies in competitions. Golf can be knackering in the heat we've had this weekend, especially if you're playing consecutive days or multiple rounds in one day. Being able to use a buggy clearly offers a physical advantage which the majority of the field (at least in the UK) wont have.

Would also ban people playing bounce games during competition times. If they're not bothered about the scores, they tend to end up ripping through the field which causes backlogs as people have to let them through. If they're not, and they're slow, then they are holding up the course for literally no reason. Our medals are in 3 balls and one of the most frustrating things in the world is getting stuck behind a fourball of (generally older) men playing a bounce game and holding everything up. There's plenty of other times to play and the tee is never booked for more than a few hours for the comps.
