Hi all,

1st time posting, so please go easy on me. Haha.

i have been playing golf for a number of years, current handicap is 22, however, started playing regularly over the last 12 months and now have joined my 1st club. The golf is good, but the drive is frustrating.

I bought a Benross RIP speed driver (10 degree) and i am 5 9" and stocky. Have the power, but my swing is not consistent. I probably drive between 250-270 on a normal day.

i am struggling to get any great height with my drive. When I do hit it well, there is always a slight fade. I have always struggled with a slice, as many have, and used to Tee with an offset cobra 3 wood.

my question to you experienced forum-ers, is should I look to go back to a 3 wood for the loft and the consistency (albeit a normal non offset 3 wood) or should I stick with the driver and change my swing to suit?

Is a 3 wood easier to draw&fade than a driver?

my hybrid and all Irons suit my current swing and I strike the clubs well, I just really struggle with the driver.

I am swaying to a 3 wood, however I am on a limited budget (up to £80) and I am needing some guidance on what's good for that price range.

Your comments would be welcome.

cheers for reading.

Probably not the answer you want but personally Id go and have a lesson with the driver with a teaching pro and see if he can sort your issues out and save you spending on a new stick at the same time

Welcome along. I'd go with Fundy and recommend a lesson. Cheaper option and once you practice it and get some confidence you'll see a difference

or should I stick with the driver and change my swing to suit?

Here is your answer. You should swing the same with every club, not have a different one for each club. Because of the longer shaft and less loft any faults will be accentuated by the driver. Sort out your swing faults and the driver will take care of itself.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I'll get in with my local pro. When I bought my driver I maybe should have gone for a 12° driver, for the added loft, but I do agree that my swing needs sorting as I am unable to draw a ball.

Thanks again.

I can't draw the ball with a driver and I manage ok. People get (imo) too hung up on wanting to shape the ball.

Not being able to get any height with a driver is something you should get looked at though. I'd guess it would take a pro 2 minutes to spot the problem.
