What targets have we set ourselves for 2008?

htl,

Food for thought there. I'm one of the sad people who note down performance over a round and I can quickly see from the results what are my strenghts and weaknesses. I'll need to set myself some time based targets to see how things progress this year.

To score 30 points stableford or more every time I go out. This sets a target, so that a round which starts poorly doesn't escalate into a nightmare. It still means that a strong finish can be satisfying if it rescues the 30 points.

Tried this last year, and over the whole year only failed 3 times. This year I hope to achieve better consistency, and so far it is going well, with 37 and 41. Next up, Saturday.

If I can get the consistency up, hopefully the medals will get better too, especially if I can drill mnayself to finish well and close out the round.

My main goal is to get back playing again it will be 9 weeks tomorrow since i last played and by the way it feels will be another 9 weeks.
And then when i eventualy get back i have to get used to my new set of clubs which havent been out in the fresh air yet.

I will probably have to have some lessons to get me back on track and hopefully keep at single figures for the year.

My main target was going to be better course management.

play consistantly and score between 85-90 per round over the next year rather than a 81 then the next round 90+. Also to practice once a week and in the summer twice after work.

1 get below 100 every time,
2 practice putting - cut down the three putts
3 practise short game
4 keep it straight!
5 don't get so hung up on achieving goals that I forget to enjoy it

1. To maintain my sub 100 scoring (only achieved this last summer) throughout 08.

2. For my driver to be my preferred weapon of choice from the tee - did in my last game and it saved my round as couldn't hit a thing from the fairway.

3. To play more this year - moved house last year and lived with the in-laws for a while so chances were restricted.

Just recently took up the game after a 12 year absence, will be joining a local club in March. My handicap was 8 and I started off by saying when I got a new handicap anything below 20 would be a bonus. After playing 2 rounds one of 84 on a 5,800 yard par 71 and one of 83 on a tricky 6,500 yard par 72 I have revised my goals for 2008.

1. get an initial handicap in the cat 2 bracket (6 - 12) and reduce that to a single figure before the end of the season.

2. Do a full round without a double bogey on the card.

3. Do a full round without a six (or worse) on the card

4. enjoy every round I play.

No's 1, 2 and 3 may be ambitious but if your going to set targets then they should be difficult to attain.

If all I achieve is number 4 then I'll be a very happy man.

As we're getting close to the middle of the season, I thought I'd revive this thread and see how we're all doing.

My target was single figures by the end of the year. I've came down 0.7 from the start, so I'm pretty much on target. I've also won the Club Tankard which was an added bonus that I didn't expect. So all in all I'm quite happy with progress so far.

You?

3 increases of 0.1 plus 2 buffers for me so far this year. Starting to play better now but still prone to hitting some really bad shots and it is those bad shots that currently stop me from getting anywhere near 10.5 (target for year).

Wanted to get down to 10. Going in the opposite direction. Juust not playing well enough. Had lessons to cure my major swing fault and can play well after (hit the buffer zone on 5 ocassions) but not consistently enough. Then the flaw creeps back in and the game drifts off again. There is a really low score in there its just having faith in my swing to bring it out.

On the plus side my short game and putting have improved beyond recognition thanks to the hard work I've been putting in so it isn't all bad news

Season mark to date 5/10

Having played to 12 and 13 a good few times this year, I am dissapointed i will not be reaching my goal of joining a club, and getting my official handicap. Have decided to stay nomadic untill next year!

Was/still is to get to single figures.

Last July I was 22 currently 13.4. I need to practice more. I have improved my putting to the detriment of other aspects of my game. Don't seem to get the time to practice that a lot on here do or claim to do. Probably need to zero in on certain areas until I am satisfied then move on.

Oh and get them bloody mizuno clubs from the April comp that haven't materialised yet

1. Have a par round (anywhere) during the year
2. Play my 100th 18-hole course (the Old Course in April)
3. Get down to 7 or better

How you doing on 1 & 3 - we've already seen the pictures of 2!

Mine still to get under 18 (from 26) by year end. (I think that's a SMART target...)

Didn't post earlier as I probably wasn't a member then but the goal at the begining of the year was to get to 10 or better and just be more consistent.
After last weeks medal fiasco (nett 88 off 12 in case you didn't see it!!) just finding some sort of golf game will do me for the rest of the year!!
Had some practice on the range in the week and it all seems to be there or there abouts but I need to be able to take it to the course so just getting round to handicap will be a result as far as I'm concerned.
