What targets have we set ourselves for 2008?

Getting back to 6 this year, I would like better but after last years debacle, Ill take 6. So many areas of my game suffered due to nil practice, This year will be different fingers crossed.

Playing off 22 I should be looking at low-mid 90s on a regular basis. The problem is I cannot seem to find the time or cash to play/practice often enough to achieve this. I think I only managed about 20 rounds in total last year. If I can find the time/cash I will be looking to get down below 20 this year.

Having spent the afternoon on and off video-ing my swing....the target I going to set myself is to improve my swing generally and see if my new pro and I can knock the lack of lag and scooping through impact finally on the head.

single figures
win a club competition
finish a round birdie birdie
oh yeah, hit the 610 yard par5 in two :)
practice putting more
play more than 3 times as much as i did last year1

Try and get rid of silly three putts.
Try not scratch a hole in the weekly stapleford competition.
Try to reduce my handicap from 19 to 15 by year end.
Play at least one midweek game during the summer.
Keep winning my weekly "Cup of Coffee" bet from my brother.

Hadn't thought about setting a 08 target Jon - good idea.
So mine will be to get a 18 handicap, currently 22.
Achievable by improving my not very good putting.

1) To get cut from 14 to 10
2) To win at least one monthly medal/stableford
3) To reduce my average putts from 36 to 32-30
4) To improve from 100 yards in
5) To enjoy myself and remember it is only a game!!!

Want to try and get down to three this year, been hovering between 4 and 5 for the past 10+ years, in fact its gone up and down akin to a hookers knickers!!!!!!!

Got my putting sorted out thanks to the broomhandle and the confidence is back, great coach in Jim McKinnon at Irvine Bogside is looking after my swing and its feeling grooved, bring on the April Medal!

Hoping to get near single figures this year.
Would have managed last year but for the problems in my mind when I had a madal card in my hand. ;)

Well I'm looking for a bit of consistency this year. I know I'm going to have to put in a bit of hard work to get there, but I've done it before so...

Targets are,

1) Better performance with the driver. Get the ball on the fairway. It makes life so much easier.

2) Practice short game as much as possible. This is where I need to play well to score well.

3) Handicap back down to 7-8. I know I can play at this level, I did three years ago when i did put in the effort with 1 & 2 above.

So here's looking forward to a good year on the golf course.

I'm in the same boat as The Craw above, want to get to 2 but 3 handicap would be good, have hovvered around 4-5 for a while, every year I put in 2 or 3 cards around scratch or better so I know I can do it, I just need to cut out the inconsistency and focus better, probably need to reduce the midweek games too which I'm often playing tired.

OK folks?
Hopefully my Sports Science qualifications will be of some use to you?
Before you all conclude on you years goals make sure you follow these simple rules, your goals have to be

S.M.A.R.T =
1. Set Specific Goals. Research shows that specific goals are the most motivating. A specific goal is to reduce your handicap by on in six months. Many people just say they want to be a better golfer in a few months. This goal is far too general to really motivate you in your training.
2. Set Measurable Goals. Simply saying that you want to lower your handicap is not detailed enough. You need to be able to chart and document progress toward your goal, record all information i.e. how you feel when you're playing, what's your mental state.
3. Set Adjustable Goals. This means your goals are flexible enough to accommodate unexpected challenges without becoming obsolete. An injury may force your to modify your goal. An injury doesn't need to mean you abandon all your plans. At the same time, you may find you are progressing quickly and need to raise your goal.
4. Set Realistic Goals. Start where you are, and increase your goals accordingly. If you haven't even played a full round yet don’t expect to be the next Tiger Woods in your first year.
5. Set Time-based Goals. Look again at first example: Lower your handicap by 1 in six months. This is specific and time-based. Without a time line there is a tendency to procrastinate or get bored. You may also need to set interim goals with shorter timelines to keep you on track. Try to re-evaluate your goals every 2-3 months.

Hope this helps any of you? I have some design templates and am more than willing to answer questions.

very interesting htl.......i wish i could say that i will follow the "smart" thing.......but i won't!! never been able to work that way, sadly. good theory though!!

My targets well:

1)Get cut from 26 to 16
2)Improve of the tee, get the ball in the fairway more
3)Win at least 1 junior comp
4)Play in at least 5 adult comps
5)Stop taking as many dropped shots grrrrrrr

1. Now that I have better weather gear, not to use the weather as an excuse not to play.

2. Not to be 'rain stopped play' in every comp I enter this year!

3. To get myself a regular four-ball to make sure I play more often.

4. Have one round a month without a three-putt.

5. Get putts down from 36 to 32 average.

6. Sacrifice at least one round a month to some structured practice.

There's probably as much chance of this happening as my beloved Newcastle performing as well as they should!
