Nice list Darren, Lytham is my favourite out of that lot. One of the best 'thinking man's courses' I have ever played (y)

I loved that course, it is so good, friendly and easily in my fav top 10 courses(may well be in top 3-5, but would need to think about that) :geek: Played it in a stiff wind with a guy I didn't know at the time and a couple of clients that I took, just after the womens open and had a great laugh. The guy said come back next year so hoping to return next year but will return under any situation.

There's probably a few more that I've forgotten, but these are the courses that I can remember playing for the first time in 2018 :

Hankley Common
Walton Heath (Old)
Remedy Oak
Hanbury Manor
The London Club (Heritage)
Coventry
Royal West Norfolk
Luton Hoo
Ferndown
Isle of Purbeck
Woodhall Spa (Hotchkin)
Princes (Shore & Dunes)
Royal Cinque Ports
Royal St Georges

Out of those, my favourites as new courses this year were Hankley Common, Ferndown, Woodhall Spa, and Royal Cinque Ports. I'd give those 4 courses a 10/10 rating.

So how did everyone get on, did you play the courses you wanted to?

I missed

Purdis Heath (had to bail as I got an invite to Royal Troon)
Woodbridge
Frilford heath due to going to Paris for the Ryder Cup

But did manage to get a few more in ;)

Did Stanton on the Wolds, for anyone that hasn't played it play in the coronation pairs event, greens so so fast it was unreal.

Also managed to sneak in unexpectedly.

Royal Troon
Troon Portland
Dundonald
Barassie
Western Gailes
The Old Course
Royal Porthcawl
Royal Birkdale
Swinley Forest
West Sussex
Cuddington
Camberley heath
Berkshire Blue
Manchester

Managed to get 28 away courses this year, not quite a record for me but the quality of courses that I played was incredible, just a shame I cant actually play them properly

Only got Prestwick and Muirfield to play to complete the Open courses.
Do some bloody work !!!!!!!

Closest I got to your list was that I stood by Ullapool's 9th/18th green this summer - Mrs SILH wouldn't let me play - clubs were in the boot of the car into the bargain...not a soul about. She wasn't for walking round with me and could be bothered spending an hour and half by herself. I had a little grump...

Reminded me of a similar happening about 30yrs ago - different 18th green though - Pebble Beach. Tee time available - $100 - nope yer not on says she...:(

A total of 20 new courses, more than I was expecting and will be hard to beat next year.

We came off the ferry from Stornoway, 100 yards to the pub/hotel, cases dropped off, wife went off to look round the town, I went off to play and was back within an hour and a half . My wife had found something she thought I might like to buy and I bought it the next morning. All in all, a very enjoyable couple of hours.

Not too many new people ones for me this year:
Melton Mowbray
Stapleford Park
Woodhall Spa (Hotchkin)
Coventry
West Hill

Out of those the highlight for me was Liphook, although I would like to try the Hotchkin again on a day that I am striking the ball better.

Heading to Ireland in Mayand booked in to play

Old Head of Kinsale
Tralee
Lahinch
Doonbeg
Waterville

Also looking to play Woburn Duchess, Tandridge and Close House which will then tick off all the English courses in the top 100.

What did you make of Old Head? Heard a lot of contrasting and mixed views. Some love it some say it's just a cliff top course not true links.

Sorry to answer , the views are stunning , amazing in fact , true links ? Possibly not and the layout is ok but it’s amazing to play there and one I would recommend to do once
