Went to the range tonight for the first time in forever. Ended up bumping into a mate of mine who I haven't seen in months. Noticed he had the new Mizuno R12 wedges in the bag, he replied with 'has it been that long since I've seen you? I've got the new irons too'

Lo and behold he has a spanking new set of MP59's with stiff KBS shafts fitted. Of course, I had to have a hit with the 7 iron....wish I forking hadn't! I'm now trying to figure out where I can get £600 from to buy a set. Marvellous clubs, actually look proper nice in the flesh too.

Biscuits.

Arse.

You'll get some trade in for your current line up so that'll soften the blow. Its sounding like a done deal

Got kbs stiff, going to swap them out after Xmas. Nice on their day, a tad stiff when I'm hitting it like a girl. Going to put some R300 in in the new year. A bit light too. No longer or me.

This is why I'm loathed to try others' equipment. It just tempts me into buying it, or at least trying to work out how to buy it. My regular playing partner and generally best mate knows exactly how i think and always tries to palm his old gear off on me almost by default.

Example: We went to the range last Thursday and offered to let me have a knock with his Cobra driver (model unknown to me at least) cos mines old and crap. Monday we turn up for 18 holes and he's brandishing his new R9. "By the way my Cobra's for sale if you're interested".

It's a well rehearsed ploy which has in the last couple of years left me with a bike, car, some ice hockey kit, a Hotblade putter and a Wilson stand bag.

My Mrs. now gives me pocket money.

Oh JonBoy, JonBoy........

Will you never learn...?

Stivk with what you have. They're perfectly good and will do you for a while yet...

Failing that, sell your body and fill yer boots!

Actually I prefer the look of the 58's over the 59's but they're not as forgiving.
Will the next set be MP59.5's....?

Just get them, you know you want to.

I had the opposite experience with a friend, let him try my 5 year old Titleist driver and it went duff, top, slice, bigger slice, snappy slice and a very low pull of 120yds lol

Unfortunately I have a serious shoulder injury so not hit them. But was in Direct Golf and had a look at them and they look fantastic. That beautiful classic looking head with that forgiveness is fantastic. I always play a traditional compact type of head so to then find some with that sort of forgiveness is fantastic. Getting some new irons this season as my trusty old TM's need replacing and must say these will be near the top of the shopping list. Obviously need to sort the shoulder and hit them first though.

I know, I still love my 57's (just hate my swing) but these babies were ace. Unless I win the lottery or £600 on the horses (which I never bet on :D) there's no possible way I can afford these. I could be tempted to ask for them as a birthday gift but if I do that, I don't get to go to Seattle next autumn.

Soooo...MP57's FTW! :D

Can't agree about the looks though. The 59's are lovely.

There is a reason that we all hit other people's gear better than our own.

No Pressure.

You stand over the ball with total freedom as mentally it's not a "real shot". Hey presto, free swing, no swing thoughts and the little bit of talent we all have finally gets the upper hand over the demons.

That said, buy 'em if you want 'em ;)

Was that Brickhampton Court range Jon? If so, I was close to going there last night too. I'm glad I didn't cos I haven't got £600 to spare either.

It was mate. trying to get back into a routine. If you're down there, just look for the bloke with an over the top, loopy swing, glasses, headphones (listening to Tour Tempo) and a water bottle on my swing path!

do you think it was the shafts or head that made the m59s feel better than your mp57s or a mixture?

i'm tempted to upgrade my mp60's

Probably a mixture of both. The KBS shafts felt lighter than the S300's I have in my 57's club looked great at address too. Might have been the extra layer of grip tape on his grips too. Made mine feel very thin in comparison, though I have ridiculously tiny hands, so I don't know if a bigger grip is a benefit for me or not. Certainly didn't feel uncomfortable.
