What does your club do if you change your medal time?

I actually can't think of a single reason why this would be a rule. It would make more sense (but still be daft) if you couldn't move your time. If they are allowing you to move it, why then ban you from winning

simple disincentive

I'm sort of with c1973's view

also add that such rules always have a history, and are logical to everyone at the time - it's only when everyone's forgotten the why that things like this happen. the most logical answer would seem to revolve around the only practical aspect affected - a choice not to play with a particular individual (for whatever reason) and the decision has been made that for balloted events anyone choosing to exercise that option is effectively out of the comp, but can play on the day.

a slightly more convoluted issue might be people seeing spaces after the draw is made choosing, as individuals, to get moved into them to end up playing together and leaving 3, or 4, games playing one short in a competition field as a result - definitely not to be encouraged.

however, the rule as set out does look rather like a sledgehammer to crack a nut and it would be easier for the 'committee' to just make individual decisions as they see fit (but then again that always creates issues!!!)

to the OP - just ask the committee why the rule exists; then tell us!

I love this comment because its so true , may i diverse a little ?
soccer brought in a rule that if you receive attention on the pitch you had to go off the pitch for a while ,
WHY ?
to stop time wasting that was rife at the time, players were rolling around (as now) then jumping up and running around in 2 seconds

, the plan was you go off for a few mins so as it would not be in your teams best interests for you to go down for no reason ,

i hear pundits now saying this is a stupid rule , the rule is not stupid its just that they are been let back so quickly now by the referee that it is undermining the rule ..

BUT for the record I do agree with Hawkeyes that if they let you into the comp you should let you compete to win .. the rule if anything should be, play at your drawn time or you cant play .. its a game of golf if you miss it , so what ..

I probably agree with this sentiment too - but I don't know enough about the 'case law' that created it to be able to judge whether it's silly this way. Someone may have challenged the right of the committee to prevent him playing when they are permitting people who hadn't previously signed up to subsequently enter (for example)

My previous club would not let you change your time on the day of a comp, from am to pm or vice versa. Because the weather forecast may be different AM to PM .
