Might seem a stupid question, but it is not my question but something some of the lads said in the fuddle yesterday. And it made me smile.

Am busting a gut to get my handicap down and currently stand at WHS 18.9. However when I mentioned that to the lads, some of the lads said ā€œthat’s not your handicap you get 22 shots at Norwood off the whitesā€.( 19 off yellows).

So seeing as most folk play there golf ā€œ At home/ there home courseā€ what is your handicap.

I know the handicap has changed, but sometimes I think some folk are stuck in the old ways and cannot move forward.

Thoughts please me ducks. Preferably before Monday šŸ˜‰

It much depends on the context of the question. If asked anywhere off the course I will refer to my index, on the course the playing handicap I have for the course I am playing.

My wife laughs at me when I include the decimal point . ā€œ what’s your handicap now ?ā€ ā€œIt’s 10.5 ā€œ Oh don’t forget the .5 šŸ˜‚

If someone asks my handicap in conversation, I tell them my index. Maybe I should tell them my playing handicap though since that is 3 shots lower. šŸ˜„

I say my exact is 7.7. and leave it at that. If anyone asks further it'll be because they understand a bit about golf and WHS handicapping - if they don't it doesn't make any difference that I've not given a round number.

"4.5
This year it started at 4.6 and it went down to 3.9 and back up to 4.5
I might come down again a bit before the end of the year.
Last year started 4.3 went up to 5.5 and down to 4.6 at year end."

By this time, if the person who asked the question is a non-golfer, they have probably lost all interest and will never ask the question of anyone ever again. (I hope)

I'd quote my HI if asked, it can't really be compared with handicaps under the old system though.

The tendency is for better players to have a lower handicap than previously and lesser players a higher one.

At what number are they the same?

My playing hcp can vary widely, 2 - 8 on courses I have played this year.
With the old system, the lowest I ever got to was 5.2. With WHS, I briefly got to 3.5 last year.
