What are the chances of hitting the group in front..

Guys just to be clear... usually would never resort to pressurize them by hitting balls at them. These were some visitors just up to some mischief. They did not want to be spoken to, so would just do a runner everytime we approached them. I think the more sensible thing to do was to get the marshals out.

it takes all sorts to muck up your round..

One of my pet hates is people putting undue pressure on the group ahead. If you want to play through then ask. If you start firing towards me your ball will be heading back just as fast. Think its poetic justice that most of the time you tried to smash it into the group in front you hit crap shots

The onus is on the group in front to realise that they're holding people up. I hate when you ask to play through and they reply, we're not going slowly.

Well actually you are or I wouldn't be asking if I can play through. Also if you get your collective heads out of your backsides and cared to look back once in a while you'll have seen me standing waiting on every hole.

And deliberately hitting a ball close to someone is much worse than both. While I sympathise with you and agree the idiots should have let you through, hitting a ball when you know the group could be in range is stupid and dangerous. Next time, just ask

Yes , lets all carry megaphones to shout at the group in front!

Should have just killed them and moved their corpses to the rough, don't need rubbish on the fairway ... Oops sorry that is a bit harsh, perhaps you could resort to dropping a couple of balls and having a practice round. Or you could just take a chill pill and look at it like this , your on a golf course, your not in an office and just enjoy the freedom ..
Also the standing rule is now a local rule and this is upto the club to implement, so if its a single or three ball and your a pair, you can call that person through or that group through .. Or you can have a 2 stroke penalty for slow play and endless abuse in the club house.

Why is it that the slower the group, the less likely they are to look behind them...?

I know where the OP plays, I was a member there for 5 years, there are plenty of opportunities to speak to them as they go down the next hole.

The biggest surprise however is that the 4 ball had no-one in front of them. The reason I left was because it was almost impossible to ever get round in less than 4 1/2 hours because it was so busy

Two reasons.. we tee-ed off at 730 am.. so it was only the lonely & sleepless playing.. also I think the guys ahead of them had put daylight between themselves and the group in front of us..
